SEHS Weekly Update - Week of March 24th

Southeast Families-

This is Eric Yarbrough, principal at Southeast Alamance High School.

Congratulations to Desi Brown, Jasmyn Lee, Sasha Garcia Algeria, Alondra Brito Pina, and Belinda Borja-Gabriel for placing in the top 3 at the FCCLA State Convention last week.  Jasmyn, Sasha, Alondra, and Belinda also advanced to the National FCCLA Competition in Seattle in late June.  Congratulations to these students as well to our FCCLA advisors, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Carter, and Mrs. Hays.

We are 4 days away from the end of the 3rd quarter grading period.  The end of the 3rd quarter grading period ends on Thursday, March 28th.  Your child’s grade at the end of the 3rd quarter will count as 40% of their final grade for that course.  Please take a minute to review your child’s grades in Powerschool.

Our Student Council is sponsoring a spirit week this week.  The theme days are below.

  • Monday - PJ Day

  • Tuesday - Hawaiian Day

  • Wednesday - Dress as Your Type

  • Thursday - Anything but a Backpack

Our attendance rate for this week was 91.9% with the freshman class leading the way at 94.1%.  We also had 386 tardies this week with over 50% of them being tardy to 1st period.  Your child must be at school and on time to be successful in their classes.  Please help us by ensuring that your child is at school on time everyday.

We will be running an evening academy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:15 to 6:30.  This is a great opportunity for your child to get some extra help if they need it.  Please contact Bo Williamson at brandon_williamson@abss.k12.nc.us to sign your child up for our Evening Academy.

The Key Club is sponsoring a clothing drive.  You can donate any clothes, but we are specifically in need of underwear, leggings, sweatpants, and socks.  Nonperishable food and personal care items are also needed.  Please drop off any items in our student support office.

Please fill out the form below if you are interested in receiving emails in regards to second semester, summer, and 2024-2025 drivers education courses.

Senior parents…If you still need to order your cap and gown online at the link below.  Please order yours as soon as possible as the price will continue to increase.

We will hold our 2024 Junior/Senior Prom on May 4th at the Chairman's Retreat in Burlington.  Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased online.  The earlier you purchase tickets the cheaper they will cost.  If you are bringing someone from another school you will have to get a Prom Bid Form completed and turned it in to Ms. Miles in the Student Services Office by April 19th.

The district approved the calendar for the 24-25 school year at their BOE meeting earlier this week.  The approved calendar is linked below.

In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features.  Finally, if you want to be a parent observer in your child’s Canvas courses then click here for instructions to set that up.  If you have any questions please reach out to us.

Breakfast and lunch are not free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the application linked below. Our school currently has a negative balance of $2800.  At the end of the year, our school will have to pay the negative balance.  Paying this money takes away important resources from other things that we may need at the school.  Please help us to pay down our negative balance by putting money in your child’s account or by applying for free or reduced meals.   The free or reduced application is available in the main office or you can fill out the online application at https://www.lunchapplication.com/.

You can add money to their lunch account online, by clicking the link below.
