Southeast Families-
This is Eric Yarbrough, principal at Southeast Alamance High School.
Last week our exams went well. On Friday, we had 95% of students at school for their exam. Please make sure that your child is on time this week for their exams. We will administer state CTE exams on Tuesday and the remaining state EOC exams on Wednesday. There is a Math III review session that will take place on Tuesday from 8:45 to 12:15 on Wednesday. This Math III review session will be important for your child to attend to ensure that students are ready for their Math III exam on Wednesday. Please remember that exams do count as 20% of their final grade in each course. Students that do not take an exam will receive a zero for the exam grade.
Students that are not scheduled for a state required exam on January 16th, January 17th, January 18th, or January 19th are not required to attend school on those days.
Please remember that Monday, January 15th we will be closed for students and staff in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, February 8th as we will hold our annual Curriculum Fair at Southeast Alamance High School. This will be a great opportunity for parents and students to come out and learn about all of the course options available at Southeast and throughout ABSS. Representatives from Southeast, CTEC, ACC, the Elon Academy, and others will be here so that you can learn about all the options available.
ABSS is excited to invite you to their upcoming Family University event that will be held on January 29th from 5:30 - 7:30 at Cummings High School. There will be lots of great sessions for you to learn more about opportunities for you and your child in our school district. Childcare will be provided for students Pre-K through 5th grade and a light dinner will be provided. I hope to see you there.
The ABSS school board voted to revise the student calendar. March 5th will now become a Required Teacher Workday and February 21st and March 13th (former early release days) will now become full student days. The new student calendar is linked below.
In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features. Finally, if you want to be a parent observer in your child’s Canvas courses then click here for instructions to set that up. If you have any questions please reach out to us.
Breakfast and lunch are not free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the application linked below. Our school currently has a negative balance of $4,300. At the end of the year, our school will have to pay the negative balance. Paying this money takes away important resources from other things that we may need at the school. Please help us to pay down our negative balance by putting money in your child’s account or by applying for free or reduced meals. The free or reduced application is available in the main office or you can fill out the online application at https://www.lunchapplication.com/.
