Southeast Families-

This is Eric Yarbrough, principal at Southeast Alamance High School.

We have just a few days left in the 2nd quarter grading period.  Please note that your child’s 2nd quarter grade will count as 40% of their final grade.  We will begin our fall semester final exams on January 10th.  Please note that final exams will count as 20% of your child’s final grade in their course.  Please take a minute to review the final exam schedule.  If you have any questions then please let us know.

All students are expected to be at school on Monday through Thursday of this week.  If they are exempt from an exam we will have other things for students to do during that period, but it is extremely important that students are here for exam reviews for EOC and CTE exams that will take place on Friday, January 12th and the week of January 16th

Students that are not scheduled for a state required exam on January 12th, January 16th, January 17th, January 18th, or January 19th are not required to attend school on those days.

Students can be exempt from non-state mandatory exams if they meet the following criteria.

  • a grade of “A” and no more than five (5) absences during the semester

  • a grade of “B” and no more than four (4) absences during the semester

  • A grade of “C” and no more than three (3) absences during the semester

Any absences (excused or unexcused) count toward the limit for exam exemption except school sponsored field trips, school approved activities, religious holidays and district approved medical hardship waivers.  The goal of this policy is to reinforce the importance of instructional time during the school day.

This Tuesday at 6:00, Ms. Katie Murray and our dance students will be putting on their Winter Dance Performance.  Please make plans to come out and support these students and this program.  Cost is $5 at the door.

We will hold Evening Academy this Tuesday until 6:15 for students that are signed up.  Please reach out to Coach Williamson if you have any questions.

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, February 8th as we will hold our annual Curriculum Fair at Southeast Alamance High School.  This will be a great opportunity for parents and students to come out and learn about all of the course options available at Southeast and throughout ABSS.  Representatives from Southeast, CTEC, ACC, the Elon Academy, and others will be here so that you can learn about all the options available.

The ABSS school board voted to revise the student calendar.  March 5th will now become a Required Teacher Workday and February 21st and March 13th (former early release days) will now become full student days. The new student calendar is linked below.

In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features.  Finally, if you want to be a parent observer in your child’s Canvas courses then click here for instructions to set that up.  If you have any questions please reach out to us.

Breakfast and lunch are not free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the application linked below. Our school currently has a negative balance of $4,100.  At the end of the year, our school will have to pay the negative balance.  Paying this money takes away important resources from other things that we may need at the school.  Please help us to pay down our negative balance by putting money in your child’s account or by applying for free or reduced meals.   The free or reduced application is available in the main office or you can fill out the online application at https://www.lunchapplication.com/.

You can add money to their lunch account online, by clicking the link below.
