Happy new year! We’re back to featuring the awesome teachers, admin, and staff that work at AVS.
Meet this week’s teacher: Mr. Cornett! He is an Occupational Course of Study(OCS) teacher at AVS.
Did you know that Mr. Cornett is related to another AVS teacher(Mrs. Cornett who teaches 9-12 business classes)? It’s no surprise that one of Mr. Cornett’s favorite traditions is Friday Family Dinner.
Mr. Cornett chose to be part of the AVS family due to his familiarity with the distance learning environment. He hopes that these insights will help him to be a positive force in helping kids experience a high level of success in the virtual landscape.
Thanks Mr. Cornett for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member.

Meet this week’s teacher: Mr. Dodson! He is the Elementary Art teacher at AVS.
A travel wish of Mr. Dodson is to have a spa day in an exotic location like the Hot springs in Greenland, Japan, Norway, or perhaps somewhere local too! We all have heroes and Mr. Dodson’s hero is Tim Sweeny, founder and CEO of Epic Games. In his leisure time he enjoys hiking, drawing, and exploring places off the normal trails.
Mr. Dodson believes that a virtual option should be available for all families for a variety of reasons. He sees AVS as been a great place with motivated staff and involved families.
Thanks Mr. Dodson for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!

Meet this week’s teacher: Mrs. Cornett! She is the High School CTE teacher at AVS.
It is a perfect fit that Ms. Cornett is a CTE teacher because that was her favorite subject when she was a student! In her free time she enjoys quilting, video games, and jigsaw puzzles. If she could travel any where, she would take a road trip across the USA.
Thanks, Ms. Cornett, for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!

AVS Winter Spirit week is happening this week! Tuesday is candy cane and peppermint day. Tomorrow is flannel day.
Meet this week’s teacher: Mrs. Webb! She is the High School Spanish teacher at AVS.
Some of Ms. Webb interests are line dancing, snorkeling, and she has attended Appalachian football games for over 40 years! When she was in school she, of course, liked Spanish, but also enjoyed Math and played the saxophone in middle school. Her heroes are her grandmothers who were always gracious and generous.
Ms. Webb is excited to be a part of the AVS family because I love using technology to enhance student learning. Her favorite part has been working with students who attend class with a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to take risks in the language.
Thanks Ms. Webb for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!

Ms McAvinney loves learning and when she was in school her favorite subject was Science. She has a long and exotic list of places she would like to visit including: Scotland, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Iceland, Alaska, Hollywood, and Antarctica. When not teaching at AVS she likes to play board games with her family.
Ms McAvinney came to AVS because she loved the opportunity to start a new school, especially one that integrates technology.
Thanks Ms. McAvinney for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!

Meet this week’s teacher: Ms. Barbaza! She is a 6th/7th grade ELA teacher at AVS.
If Ms. Barbaza could travel anywhere in the world, she’d visit Italy. Unsurprisingly, ELA was her favorite subject when she was a student. If you spot Ms. Barbaza outside of school, you might find her practicing yoga, reading, or baking.
Ms. Barbaza chose to work at AVS because she loves the small community and being able to work closely with students even though they aren't in the same room.
Thanks Ms. Barbaza for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!

Meet this week’s school counselor: Ms. Carter! She is the school counselor for grades 8-12 at AVS.
Did you know that Ms. Carter’s favorite school subject was floriculture? If Ms. Carter could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Bora Bora. Her favorite family tradition is the decorating of the house the night before someone's birthday.
Thanks Ms. Carter for all you do at AVS! Tune in next Monday to meet the next AVS team member!
