This week, we are going to have a special "Super Attendance Week." Our goal for our school this year is to have 93% attendance. For the month of November, we finished at 92.7%, and while that is close to our goal, we still have work to do! How can you help us reach our goal? By having your students at school every day, on time, and all day. Every minute counts! For "Super Attendance Week", students who are in school on time will receive 5 House Points from their classroom teachers. Which class, grade level, or house will earn the most attendance points this week? Fourth grade Lion Cub Leaders are growing their lexile levels through personalized learning opportunities using Achieve 3000 and Boost while also receiving direct instruction during small group time as Mrs. Pettigrew implements best practices in meeting students where they are! #LionCubsLeadTheWay🖤💛🦁
At Haw River Elementary, we believe in celebrating our exceptional faculty, staff, and students. One way in which we do this is through our Lion Cub Leaders of the Month program. Once a month, our administration recognizes one of their teachers/staff and students with the honor of being Haw River's Lion Cub Leader of the Month. Our recognized staff member receives a gift card through a partnership with various community partners. Recognized students receive a trip to the PAW Mart Cart, where they choose a prize of their choice. Check out our Lion Cub Leaders of the Month for October, November & December! #LionCubsLeadTheWay

There's a new Lion Cub Leader in the den!We're excited to welcome our new School Nurse, Mrs. Matkins. Nurse Matkins comes to us with a wealth of knowledge & experience and looks forward to becoming a Lion Cub Leader while supporting the health and wellness needs of our students.

Family Engagement and Involvement is one of our Big Rocks this year at HRE. One way families can engage this year is to join the RCA House Points App so you can receive alerts and messages in real-time celebrating your child's success! Students will bring home a letter this week with directions on how you can connect to the app and start celebrating your child's success! Students whose families join the House Points App will receive 5 pts. Homerooms with 100% of their class that have a family connection on the RCA House Points app will receive a popcorn party and 5 extra points for each member of their class! The House, with 100% of their members that have family connections on the RCA House Points app will receive an additional 25 points for the whole house! #LionCubsLeadTheWay #FourHousesOneFamily #ReflectConnectAffect #RCAinspired
Don't forget to return your dance permission slips if you plan on participating in our Fall Sneaker Ball. K-2 will be Thursday, Nov. 16th, from 3:00-4:30, and 3-5 will be Friday, Nov 17th, from 3:00-4:30. Students must have their permission slip to attend.
Do you have a child that is working one - two years ahead of their classmates? Do they ask out-of-the-box questions? Are they passionate about specific topics and seek out new information? Are their assessments well above those in the grade level?
Now is the time to consider recommending students for AIG (academically-intellectually gifted program). If you have a child you would like to recommend; please send me a to stephanie_houston@abss.k12.nc.us with your child's name, area (reading and /or math) they are excelling in, and ways you are seeing that they are excelling. It's National School Psychologists Week! We would like to send a huge Lion Cub Roar and thank you to our school psychologist, Mrs. Palmer, and our school psychologist intern, Ms. Lewis! Thank you for all you do! #LionCubsLeadTheWay
On Thursday, E-4 Corporal Justin and his partner Junior joined our 3rd graders to talk about being a veteran and what that means. He shared about his time as a marine and about his job now with Charlie Mike. Charlie Mike is an organization that works to save the lives of those still carrying the unseen wounds of combat, one veteran at a time. #CharlieMike
