look at our growth!
Each person with autism spectrum disorder is a unique individual; people with ASD differ as much from one another as do all people. Children and adults with ASD may speak or interact with others. They may have good eye contact. They may be verbal or non-verbal. They may be very bright, of average intelligence, or have cognitive deficits.

book fair
Haw River Elementary's book fair starts Monday, April 17th and is open through Friday, April 21st. The students are so excited! It is a buy one/ get one free fair. They should have brought home a flyer and letter from Mr. Bryan with some details about the fair. Your students will be shopping during their library class time. Shopping on Monday will be the following classes; Ms. Sierra, Ms. Realini, Ms. Hines, Ms. Lundy, Ms. Feddeman and Ms. Scott. The book fair will be open for our family shopping event on Thursday, April 20th from 3:00 - 7pm. This will coincide with our Duke Energy Science night (more information will be coming soon). Here is the link to the Haw River Book Fair Home Page. Get all the news about the book fair at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/hawriverelementaryschool I strongly encourage you to set up an eWallet for your child. This can be set up from the book fair home page. You put money on their account and they use it to shop the fair. It is a safe alternative to sending cash to school. If you have more than one student at HRE, each child must have their own eWallet as they do not shop at the same time during the school day. Leftover funds less than $1 will be donated to All For Books and is used to purchase books for the school or students who can’t afford them. Leftover funds greater than $1 will be placed on a Scholastic gift card and can be used on the online store or to fund an eWallet for a future fair. You may also choose to donate the balance to the school to purchase books or help students that are just a few pennies short on their purchase, just let Mrs. Lynch know. Here are instructions for creating an eWallet for your child. Self-Advocacy is an important skill that is especially important for autistic individuals. In order to be a great self-advocate, people first must know what their strengths are as well as what accommodations serve them the best. With that knowledge, they can be their own best advocate with family, school, or community. How are you proactive in advocating for yourself? #AutismAcceptance #SelfAdvocacy #CelebrateDifferences
