During Monday's Board of Education Meeting, we highlighted some exceptional students who were accepted into the North Carolina Governor’s School program! As the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted high school students, Governor’s School provides these scholars with a life-changing opportunity to dive deep into academic and artistic disciplines without the pressure of grades. It is a massive achievement, and we are so proud to have these bright minds representing our district!

For the past six months, a group of Williams students from Ms. Lydia Hall's class have been working with Elon University professors and student mentors to conduct statistical research projects. This was through a long-running partnership with Elon called WE RISE (Williams-Elon Research In Statistics Experience). This morning, students presented their impressive projects at Elon's Spring Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF)! #ThisisABSS

School social work has been an important part of education since the early 1900s, when social workers were first introduced to schools to address truancy and help strengthen the connection between home and school. At that time, they were known as “Visiting Teachers” and played a vital role in helping families understand the importance of education while also helping educators recognize and address the challenges students might face outside of school. Over the years, the role of school social workers has continued to evolve, but their work remains both complex and invaluable in supporting students, staff, families, and the broader community. At Williams High School, we are fortunate to have Ms. Moffett serving as our School Social Worker. She works tirelessly to support the needs of students and families who are navigating complex circumstances each day. Her kindness, compassion, understanding, and patience make a meaningful difference in our school community. We appreciate you, Ms. Moffett. Happy School Social Workers Week!

We are excited to launch our All Hands on Deck campaign! We know that when students are in class, they are building the habits, relationships, and confidence they need to thrive. As we sail towards the end of the school year, we’ve set our sights on improved attendance district-wide! Every school has created incentives and celebrations for hitting this target! 🎯

Facts on Attendance:
📉 Missing just 2 days per month can cause a student to fall behind academically.
🎓 Strong attendance is the #1 predictor of reading at grade level and graduating on time.
🤝 Being in school every day builds the routines and social connections that help students succeed.

How Families Can Help:
✅ Set consistent bedtime and morning routines.
✅ Prepare backpacks and clothes the night before for a smooth start.
✅ Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.

We are "All Hands on Deck" to support our students, and we thank you for being partners in education! We know it takes a community to help a child thrive. This includes educators providing engaging lessons, parents ensuring a structured routine, and students putting in the effort. We need everyone working together to finish the year strong. If the waters are rough and you're facing barriers to getting your child to school on time, please reach out! We are to help. Our crew is stronger when we are all together! 🌊✨
