To take learning beyond the classroom, eighth grade students at Western Middle created a "wax museum" of famous people from Spanish-speaking countries. After a month of research, they developed a speech to summarize the person's life, along with a visual representation. Other classrooms from Western were invited to visit the museum and complete a scavenger hunt. Impressive work! #StudentCenteredFutureFocused #HispanicHeritageMonth

In 2010, Congress passed House Resolution 275 designating the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to advocate, educate and celebrate the impact and transformative power of the arts in education. In celebration of Arts in Education Week, Sept. 11-17, one of our own Western Middle 6th grade beginner bands recorded the first song they have learned, Hot Cross Buns, after learning how to play instruments in class for just a little over a week.
