WAMS Weekly Update - 2/9/25

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families, this is Principal Aaron Acome

I want to give a huge shoutout to Ms. Kasserman, WAMS PTO Board, all of the amazing parent volunteers, and so many of our wonderful teachers and staff for making Friday’s  Dance such a massive success! With over 400 tickets sold,  concessions, and a photo booth, it was truly a night to remember for our students!

We couldn't do it without your hard work and support! Seeing our students enjoy such a fun and safe celebration was the highlight of the night!

PTO: Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who made our dance a success!! We couldn’t have done it without you!!

The PTO will be selling flower grams for $2 from Monday-Thursday. They will be delivered Friday February 14.

Love the Bus Month: This month, we celebrate our amazing bus drivers who go the extra mile every day to ensure our students arrive at school safely and on time. We are  grateful for their dedication, patience, and care! Be sure to thank a bus driver this month and let them know how much we appreciate all they do. We couldn’t do it without them!

News about the Arts at Western Middle: Burlington Alumnae Chapter (BAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is hosting its 2025 Art Supplies Drive specifically benefiting Western Alamance Middle School. Running from February 1 to March 31, 2025, the drive invites community members to contribute materials that support creative learning for local students. Join us in celebrating the talents of Western Alamance Middle School students and the impact of community support in arts education! Art Supply Donations can be made at any of the following collection locations. Look for the Big Red Box to put the art supplies in.... ALL art supplies are welcome.

  • Hawaii Fluid Art (Burlington, NC)

NC Check Ins: Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected content standards.

2nd Round Check Ins will occur February 19th through February 24th.

2025 - 2026 Drivers Education Courses: If you have a student heading to high school next year, be sure to fill out the 9th Grade Drivers Ed Interest Form! This form will ensure you receive important updates about second semester, summer, and 2025-2026 Drivers Ed courses. Don't miss out on key information—sign up today! Yearbook:

  • 8th grade student ads Create a space in the yearbook just for your student —  celebrate their passions, inspiring achievements and unique perspective in a BIG way. They’ll flip through the yearbook for years to come just to revisit your heartfelt ad. 8th Grade Ad Link

  • You can purchase your student a yearbook for $45.00 using Josten's website or the link in this email.

  • Photo Release- If you have not completed the photo release form in PowerSchool for your student, please  complete the form as soon as possible. If this has not been completed, your student will not  be pictured in the yearbook and in other school media (ex. Website, social media, etc.).

Alamance Virtual School Application: Enrollment for Alamance Virtual School (AVS)  opens on February 4, 2025. All Alamance County students entering grades 6-12 are eligible to apply. Attend a virtual information session on one of the following dates:

Athletics:D.A.R.E. Basketball Tournament – Come Support the Braves: Our basketball players are ready to take on the D.A.R.E. Basketball Tournament at Williams High School this week! Both teams have had excellent seasons, and we hope to see them in the Championship Games on Friday night. Let’s pack the stands and cheer them on! Admissions is $6 per game.

  • Boys Team (4th Seed) – Monday, February 10th, at 8:00 PM

Championship Night:

  • Girls Championship – Friday, February 14th, at 5:00 PM

  • Boys Championship – Friday, February 14th, at 6:30 PM

Wrestling Conference Championship Tournament: Come cheer on our wrestlers as they compete in the ABSS Middle School Conference Championship Tournament! This is the culmination of their hard work and dedication throughout the season, and we couldn’t be prouder!
