WAMS Weekly Update - 1/12/25

January 12, 2025

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families, this is Principal Aaron Acome.

I hope you had a warm and safe weekend!  I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy it while staying safe. I want to thank you for your flexibility and understanding with the schedule changes last week due to the weather. Your patience and cooperation are truly appreciated as we work through unexpected adjustments together.

This is the final week of the second quarter. Please take a moment to log into PowerSchool to review grades and have meaningful conversations with your student about any outstanding assignments that need to be completed. Please remind your student to check with their teachers to confirm the final day for submitting assignments for this grading period.

From the PTO: The PTO  is hosting an all school dance on Friday, February 7 from 5:30-7:30. Students attending the dance must leave campus and return during dance times.  Admission is $5. Concessions will be sold during the dance. In order to make this event a success we need donations of drinks & candy.   We will need a large number of parent volunteers the night of the dance..  Please see the sign up genius linked. https://tinyurl.com/2025WAMSDance

Tickets will go on sale January 30 during lunch. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday, January 27. Permission slips must be signed in order for students to attend. Tickets will be sold January 30-February 6. No tickets will be sold the day of the dance. In order for students to attend, they may not have a lunch balance greater than $30.

Would you like to skip to the front of the line? If weather permits, the PTO will be selling car rider raffle tickets this week in the afternoon car rider line or Venmo @Western-Middle or bring $$ by the front office. Please put in the subject line the students name and grade and that you are participating in the car rider raffle so the funds are directed to the appropriate account.  Winners will be drawn on Thursday, January 16 @4:30.

$5 for one ticket

$10  for three tickets

$20 five tickets

$50 twenty tickets

$100 fifty tickets

New car rider tags will be handed out Friday morning during morning announcements.  There will be eight winners.

Thank you for supporting the WAMS PTO.

  • Mail entries anytime between now and the deadline

  • Mailing Address: 213 S. Main St., Graham, NC 27253

We would love for our talented WAMS students to participate in this year’s contest. For full submission guidelines visit https://burlingtonwritersclub.org/contests/student-contest/

Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
