WAMS Weekly Update - 10/20/24

Good afternoon WAMS families, this is Principal Aaron Acome.

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first quarter! This is a great time to log into PowerSchool and check your child’s grades. We encourage you to have conversations with your student about any outstanding assignments that need to be completed and submitted before the grading period ends. 

Fall Picture Day:

Picture Day is Tuesday, October 22. This link  will allow parents to sign up to receive updates via email about their child’s school portraits. When entering student information, parents should be sure to enter the student's name as it is on file with the school. To pay online, go to www.strawbridge.net. Click order picture and enter the following code: FM445728

High School Speciality Program Meeting: 

Families of 8th grade students are invited to learn about the ABSS High School Speciality Programs on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 pm at Western Middle School. Representatives from the Alamance Burlington Early College, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and the Pre-Collegiate Academy will present information and answer any questions that you might have about each option for high school.

Thanks again for participating in the Nothing Bundt Cakes Fall Fundraiser.  We will have the final numbers for everyone next week.  

We are looking for a few volunteers to help supervise on Friday, October 25 from 10:45-2:45. You can volunteer in one hour shifts.  Please see the email version of this message for the sign up genius linked to the PBIS celebration.

We are looking for donations of candy, gatorade, sour candy, hot fries & water for our Braves Day on Friday, November 1 from 10:45-2:45.  Can't donate goods?  Please come in and help us run our concession stand. You can volunteer in one hour shifts. We need two pop up tents. Students will only be allowed to purchase five items at $1 per item. Not in the mood to cook on Halloween night? Come on out to Panera on October 31 from 4-8. Make sure to mention Western Alamance Middle School.  

8th Grade Career Development Plan:

Recent state legislation requires all 8th graders to participate in career exploration activities and create a preliminary Career Development Plan.  A letter detailing the initiative will go home with 8th graders next week.

7th Grade Students:

Parents of 7th grade students are required to OPT IN or OUT to have vision screening completed at school. Please log into your parent account in Powerschool. Under the forms tab, complete the vision screening permission form. These must be completed by October 31st (10/31).
