Joe Miciotto has a passion for teaching agriculture, but also wanted to serve his country. He stepped away briefly during the Iraq War to serve in Afghanistan but managed to make his way back to the classroom.
“Joe is dedicated to his students and to Western High. He goes above and beyond daily to prepare his students for life beyond high school. We are proud he is a Warrior,” said Western High School Principal Bear Bryant.
Miciotto was named the ABSS CTE Teacher of the Year Thursday by the District's Director of Career and Technical Education, Robin Bowers.
Since 2013 Miciotto has been teaching Agriscience and Ag Mechanics at Western High School prior to that he taught middle school. He will go on to represent ABSS as the North Carolina Center of the Advancement of Teaching CTE Teacher of the Year.
"The District does a tremendous job of promoting CTE and workforce development and I look forward to representing ABSS,” Miciotto said.
“ABSS allowed me the flexibility to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve through two deployments. They are very supportive of their teachers. This award is more about the dedication of students at Western Alamance than it is me. It brings me great joy to see how the students are inspired to work hard not only in the classroom but also volunteer in the community. To say it’s rewarding is an understatement.”
