Due to the forecast of below-freezing temperatures accompanied by precipitation, ABSS will be closed for all students and staff tomorrow, Friday, December 5th. This includes all after-school activities. We have made this decision out of caution to ensure the safety of our school community.

As we continue into the school year, we're excited to look back at the amazing progress during the first nine weeks! Our Progress Report Video highlights three key areas:
📵 Cell phone-free classrooms leading to greater student connection and engagement.
🤝 Strong relationships that are building confident learners.
💡 Data-driven, standards-aligned instruction challenging and supporting every student.
We're proud of this progress and encourage you to keep the conversation going at home! Ask your student about what they're learning class and connections at school. Thank you for being a vital part of the #ABSSCommunity!

That moment when you walk down the hallway and every teacher is mid-lesson and all classes are engaged in learning! Today's snapshot: South Mebane Elementary School. Teachers Mandy Mitchell, Windy Lawrence Latty, Selina Knapp, Anna Dement, and Maggie Walker were expertly modeling skills, providing feedback in whole group and small group activities. As you can see, some of the students were more than happy to proudly show off their hard work! Later at recess, Mr. Byron Lindie was teaching his class how to play cricket at recess. A great day with the Dragons!

South Mebane Elementary School students took part in an exceptional Career Day featuring over 40 ABSS community members, thanks to the SME PTO! The school was bustling with an impressive array of professionals—from city council members and police officers to healthcare providers, beekeepers, engineers, armed forces personnel, photographers, personal trainers, martial artists, Delta representatives, City of Mebane officials, and many more!
Special thanks to NC Jelly Donuts and Ashlee Blackard of Mary Kay for providing the wonderful meet-and-greet breakfast for presenters. Our students thoroughly enjoyed exploring the hands-on exhibits and discovering potential career paths.
The PTO wishes to recognize the dedicated parent volunteers who made this event possible, the SME students for their exemplary behavior and insightful questions, and most importantly, all the community members who made such a meaningful impact by inspiring our future leaders!

Incredible news for our students! Tanger Outlets, Mebane presented four grants to our schools this week. Take a look at these transformative school projects:
🌟 Denise Bungardy (Elon Elementary) - A $1,285 sensory room featuring specialized equipment like bubble tubes, weighted blankets, and sound machines to help students with autism and sensory needs better regulate themselves and engage in learning. The room will provide vestibular, tactile, visual, and auditory input in a safe space.
🌟 Loretta Atkins (North Graham/South Mebane Elementary) - A $2,373 project replacing worn playground equipment with 25 new commercial-grade swings, ensuring all K-5 students at both schools can safely enjoy active play. These schools serve a combined total of 25 swings between them.
🌟 Chanel Jones (Broadview Middle) - A $2,500 classroom laundry initiative providing students with access to washers, dryers, and supplies while teaching essential life skills. The program includes a confidential service system and life skills curriculum about laundry care and time management.
🌟 Amy Chinnici (Sellars Gunn Education Center) - A $500 'TOUCH of Literacy' project creating multi-sensory storybook kits with tactile objects to help visually impaired students better understand and engage with literature. The project will develop 10 specialized learning kits this school year.
Thank you Tanger Outlets for investing in innovative solutions that support student success across our district!
