We have exciting things happening at Smith this week, we are finishing up our Read-A-Thon and our school is celebrating GLOBAL week. Here are a few reminders about the two: We want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our school community! We are incredibly proud of our readers and so grateful for your support. Just a reminder—the Read-A-Thon ends this Wednesday, March 12! Please be sure to log all of your reader’s minutes by the end of the day. Donations will remain open through Saturday, March 22, so keep sharing with friends and family as we work toward our fundraising goal! The prize store will be open from March 13–March 22. RAT Bucks must be used within 10 days after the Read-A-Thon ends—they will expire after that time. Once the prize store closes, it cannot be reopened. Our students have done an amazing job reading, and we can’t wait to host another Read-A-Thon next year! GLOBAL week kicks off today and teachers and students have been working hard on artwork for their hallways. Check out the attached flyer for a timeline of events for our Cultural Night Wednesday Mar 12, from 5-7 at the school. We welcome families to listen to the singing, view the artwork in the cafeteria and hallways and watch the finale of the Spanish Spelling bee. Friday morning join your student in the global parade at 8am if you wish. For more info feel free to contact the PTO at info@smithpto.org Thank you for your continued support!

🦃 Look who's talking turkey! Our cafeterias were buzzing with this optional holiday feast on the menu across the district today! Many going through the lunch line, including these smiling staff and students at Smith Elementary, chose this special menu of tender turkey, savory herbed dressing and gravy, creamy mashed potatoes and homestyle green beans, with delicious apple cobbler! Regular menu items were available too. Special thanks to all our wonderful School Nutrition teams for serving up these cozy choices!

It was a gorgeous day ☀️ at Burlington Carousel Park for this year's D.A.R.E. Days celebration! Hundreds of excited fifth graders from Eastlawn, Highland, Grove Park, Andrews, Smith, Hillcrest, and Newlin elementary schools arrived Thursday and Friday to take part in the fun-filled festivities. The students spent the day rotating between a variety of awesome activities. They got to ride the newly renovated carousel, play kickball and dodgeball, and take turns running under the always-popular parachute. The playground was packed with laughter and energy and the dance party had everyone moving to the beat. Students also enjoyed a train ride around the park and plenty of water breaks to stay hydrated. Of course, no D.A.R.E. Days would be complete without a picnic lunch! 🥪 The event wrapped up around 1:30pm with words of encouragement from Officer Gonzalez and Sgt. Chad Laws of the Burlington Police Department. They worked tirelessly to organize this awesome D.A.R.E. Days celebration for all the fifth graders who completed the D.A.R.E. program. It was a day filled with nonstop fun, friends, and important lessons!
