Weekly Update March 27th

Smith Elementary School Weekly Update

Week of March 27th

It is another busy week at school and we are excited to kick off our Global Awareness Week beginning Monday.  We will have a variety of learning activities for our students to enjoy throughout the week.

  • On Monday, we will have an interactive map displayed in our front foyer listing the different countries represented by our Seabees students, their families, and our staff!

  • Tuesday our students will get to enjoy a special performance by the Indigo Dance Academy.

  • Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 pm, we will have our first Cultural Arts Night!  We hope you will mark your calendar and plan to come out.  Our families can visit interactive global tables from around the world.  We will have Elon Professors here at each table representing different countries and presenting information about each one.  Families can also visit our hallways to see each grade levels global displays of learning.  And you definitely will not want to miss our student performances in the gym.

    • 6:15 pm 1st Graders Performance (Asia)

    • 6:45 pm 3rd Graders Performance (Africa)

We can’t wait to see you and learn with you too!

  • Thursday is our Global Parade.  If your child is participating or if you and family members plan to participate, please be in our school cafeteria no later than 8 am.  We will assemble our parade line and begin the parade at 8:15 am.  This is always a fun parade and another opportunity to showcase the different cultures and countries represented by our students, their families, and our staff.

Monday is also Spring Picture Day for our students!  Information about this event has already been sent home.  Please plan to send your child wearing their best smile!

Friday is our Teacher Workday and there is no school for students.  Our teachers will be at school working and attending professional development sessions.  We hope you and your family enjoy a long weekend!

Mark your calendars now for our Family BINGO Night on Friday, May 5th!  Our PTO is busy preparing for this event and working hard to make sure it is a fun night for families and fundraising.  We need your help!  If you or someone you know owns a small business, please consider partnering with us for this amazing fundraiser!  Fill out this form, and our BINGO committee will contact you with more information.  If you'd like to volunteer to help with Bingo, please contact Margaret Arnett at Arnett.g.margaret@gmail.com. Thank you!
