Cartoon Eagle head facing to the right

Good evening Eagle Families,

This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom-like figures in our students' lives. I hope your weekend has been great. Thank you to those of you who helped shower our teachers this past week as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. Nurse’s Appreciation Day was also in the mix last week and we want to say a big thank you to Nurse Garrett for everything she does for our school!

Although their seasons came to an end on Friday, we want to congratulate our baseball and softball teams. They both made it to the second round of the state playoffs!

Congratulations to the members of our men’s and women’s track teams who traveled to UNC-Pembroke this Friday. You represented us well. Etta Krans, Tajon Roberson, Trynton Wiley and Braylon McCollum will be participating in state’s this Saturday. Good Luck!

Good luck to our girls’ soccer team as they open up state playoffs at home tomorrow night at 7:00. They will be taking on the Panthers of Orange High School.

Also, good luck to Gryffin Brehler as he travels to Pinehurst to play in the individual golf state championships.

On Tuesday 5/14, members of our staff will take on the staff of Southeast in the first annual staff vs. staff basketball game. The game will be at 7:00 in the EA gym and will cost $5. All proceeds will go towards unpaid lunch debt for both schools. We hope you make plans to join us!

Wednesday, please join us for the Miss Eastern Pageant in the auditorium at 6:30. The cost is $6.00

Seniors we will meet tomorrow during EAgle time to go over some important information.

AP Exams continue this week in the media center:

5/13–AP Pre Calc @ 12

5/14–AP Lit @ 8

5/15–AP World @ 8

We are offering 2 new classes next year: AP Seminar and AP Music Theory. Students were sent emails with more information. We encourage you to sign up.

We are currently 3 weeks away from the start of exams. As a reminder students can be exempt from teacher made exams if they meet the requirements in our Exam Exemption Policy. This is the spring exam schedule. If students have any questions about the exam schedule or need to reschedule an exam they will need to speak with their teacher.

We will continue to hold Saturday School and Evening Academy until exams. Please reach out to Mr. Hemminger at william_hemminger@abss.k12.nc.us in regards to Saturday school and Coach Walker at parrish_walker@abss.k12.nc.us for Evening Academy.

Our school currently has a negative lunch balance of $7100. At the end of the year, our school will have to pay the negative balance. Paying this money takes away important resources from other things that we may need at the school. Please help us to pay down our negative balance by putting money in your child’s account or by applying for free or reduced meals. The form is available in the office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ You can add money to your student’s lunch account online, by clicking this link. Students who have large outstanding lunch balances may not be able to participate in extracurricular activities.

Make sure you stay up to date with our daily announcements by listening to them during EAgle time. If you miss a day, you can always catch up on our channel here.

Seniors, we have a page on our website just for you! Check it out for the latest updates on all you need to know to navigate your senior year. Graduation will be June 8th, at 4:00 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse.

In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features. Finally, if you want to be a parent observer in your child’s Canvas courses then click here for instructions to set that up. If you have any questions please reach out to us.
