Good evening Eagle Families,

This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.  We had a great start to the new semester last week.  Report cards were sent via email on Friday.  F1 is the final course grade and what will be reflected on the transcript.

Students make sure that you are signed up for EAgle time this week.  Sophomores will report to the auditorium tomorrow and Freshman on Tuesday.

Congratulations to Ms. O’Neill and our Green and Gold Ethics Bowl team members on a job well done at competition this weekend.  We are proud of you!

Attention all juniors, there will be a special Herff Jones presentation on Friday during EAgle time in the auditorium.

We had 160 unexcused tardies this week.  Our overall attendance rate is 91.3% with seniors leading the way at 92.7%.  Way to go seniors!

Mark your calendars for our annual Registration Fair to be held from 4:30-6:30 on Thursday, February 8th.  This will be a great opportunity for parents and students to come out and learn about all of the course options available at Eastern and throughout ABSS.  Representatives from all departments at Eastern, CTEC, ACC, and others will be here so that you can learn about all the options available.

ABSS is excited to invite you to their upcoming Family University event that will be held this Monday from 5:30 - 7:30 at Cummings High School.  There will be lots of great sessions for you to learn more about opportunities for you and your child in our school district.  Childcare will be provided for students Pre-K through 5th grade and a light dinner will be provided.

As a reminder, we updated some of our school wide policies for the second semester.  Most of these changes have to do with ensuring that our students and teachers are able to maximize instructional time. We have a large number of students who are missing valuable instructional time due to tardies, absences, or extended time out of class. Please help us to ensure that students are on time to school, remain the entire day, and get to class on time.

We are excited to offer Saturday School from 9:00 to 12:00 on designated Saturdays.  We will have staff available to provide tutoring to students.  Students can also be assigned to Saturday School for violating the following rules of the student code of conduct or our new tardy policy.

  1. Rule 5 of the ABSS Student Code of Conduct (Skipping Class, Leaving Class without Permission).

  2. Rule 7 of the ABSS Student Code of Conduct (Possession or Use of a Nicotine Vaping Device).

  3. Rule 11 of the ABSS Student Code of Conduct (Violation of Honor Code).

New Tardy Policy

  • Students that are late to class are considered tardy.

    • 10 cumulative unexcused tardies = Admin Conference & Parent Contact

    • 15 cumulative unexcused tardies = Admin Conference & Lunch Detention

    • 20 cumulative unexcused tardies = Saturday School Assignment

    • 25 cumulative unexcused tardies = Saturday School Assignment and a day of ISS

Updated Cell Phone Policy

The following cellphone guidelines have been adopted for second semester at Eastern Alamance High School:

  • Students may bring cellphones to school.

  • Students may access cell phones during transitions, lunch, and other non-structured time.

  • Without the explicit permission of a teacher (green card) for a specific, limited, instructional purpose, the use of cell phones in classrooms is strictly prohibited.

  • Therefore, cell phones should be turned off and placed out of sight in classrooms.  Some classroom teachers may collect cell phones at the start of each class period.

  • All students must leave their cell phones with the teacher when they leave the classroom to go to the bathroom.

  • Students who do not meet this expectation should be prepared for the cell phone to be confiscated each and every time.

  • 1st and 2nd Offense – Phone returned to the student at the end of class.

  • Further Offenses - Phone will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.  Phones may be picked up from the main office prior to the student leaving for the day.

  • Students who refuse to comply with a teacher’s request to turn over a phone will be suspended from school for two days.

Make sure you stay up to date with our daily announcements by listening to them during EAgle time.  If you miss a day, you can always catch up on our channel here.

Seniors, we have a page on our website just for you!  Check it out for the latest updates on all you need to know to navigate your senior year.  Graduation will be June 8th, at 4:00 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse.

In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features.  Finally, if you want to be a parent observer in your child’s Canvas courses then click here for instructions to set that up.  If you have any questions please reach out to us.

Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students.  If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you either need to put money on their online account or secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form.  Our school currently has a negative lunch balance of $6000.  At the end of the year, our school will have to pay the negative balance.  Paying this money takes away important resources from other things that we may need at the school.  Please help us to pay down our negative balance by putting money in your child’s account or by applying for free or reduced meals.   The form is available in the office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/

You can add money to their lunch account online, by clicking the link below.
