Good afternoon Eagle Families,

This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.

Students, please take a moment to make sure you are scheduled for an EAgle time on Monday.

Starting on Monday, we will begin new lunch procedures. Students must remain either inside the cafeteria or at the outdoor eating space.  Students cannot go back and forth from one location to another.  If a student elects to eat outside, they must exit out the side door near the serving area.  The main cafeteria doors are only to be used to enter the cafeteria, except at dismissal.  If eating outside, please make sure that the table is clean at dismissal.

Outside food is not allowed in our cafeteria.  So if you bring your child food during the day, please make sure that it is from home and not an outside restaurant.  In addition no student or family should have food delivered via door dash during the day.

On Thursday, October 19th, all 10th graders will take the Pre ACT.  It is important for all 10th graders to be present on this day.  Be on the lookout for more information from Mr. Hemminger.

We are two weeks away from the end of the 1st quarter grading period.  Please take a minute to check your child’s grades online.  The first quarter grading period will count 40% of your child’s final grade in the course.  If you have any questions then please contact your child’s teacher.

College application week is here.  This is a week when many colleges and universities throughout the state waive their application fee.  Take advantage of this opportunity and apply to as many colleges as you want.  Your counselors will be in the media center this week to assist with college applications.  The Residency Determination Application is essential for determining your in-state tuition and financial aid eligibility.  Please take a moment to complete the Residency Determination Application as soon as possible to ensure a smooth college application process.

ABSS will be holding an ABSS University which will give parents opportunities to learn about everything the district has to offer.  The event will take place tomorrow, Monday, October 16th at Cummings High School.  For more information check out this flyer (English) and (Spanish).

The NC Governor's School Information Session will be held in conjunction with the ABSS Family University. This session will be delivered during the SECOND session time slot (6:50-7:30).  Please reach out to Mrs. Thea Johnson at thea_johnson@abss.k12.nc.us for more information about Governor’s School.

Evening Academy begins this week.  It will take place in the cafeteria from 4:00-6:30 Tues-Thurs.  If you need support in a subject area or more time in an APEX class, this is the place for you.  Please reach out to Coach Walker at parrish_walker@abss.k12.nc.us for more information.

Congratulations to Mr. Crotts and our band on their competition performance this weekend.  Percussion placed second over all, they placed 3rd in their class and earned the Spectators Choice Award for Best Band.  Way to go!

If you are a bus rider, please make sure that you are at your pick up locations 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.

If you are a driver, please make sure that you are parking in your assigned spot and that your parking pass is on display each day.

Please make sure that you are adhering to our cell phone policy.  Phones are allowed during lunch, class changes, and before/afterschool.  Students should not be on their phones during class except with explicit teacher permission.  If you are on your phone when you should not be and are asked to give it to your teacher and you fail to do so, it will result in a 2 day suspension.

In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features.  Please let us know if we can help you.

Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/

You can add money to their lunch account online, by clicking the link below.
