This weekend, EAHS celebrated the newest members of the EAHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Robbie Harris, George Chockley, BJ Chockley, Holt McPherson, Amy Jones, and Angie Bartis. Thank you all for your support of EAHS over the years!

Holt McPherson
Holt McPherson is a 2001 graduate of Eastern Alamance.  While at Eastern Alamance Holt was 4-year lettermen in Track earning All-Conference honors 3 times. He was the Mid State Conference Champion in the long jump and 300 hurdles individually, while also winning the championship on the 4 x 400 and the 4 x 100 relay teams.  Holt was the regional champion in the 300 hurdles and a state finalist his senior year.  Holt attended Appalachian State for 2 years, where he was voted the Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Year as the Conference Champion in the long jump.  He was also a member of the All-Southern Conference Scholastic Team.  Holt transferred to Georgia Tech for his final 2 seasons where he was a 2-year letter winner and earned ACC All-Conference honors as a long jumper.

Amy Jones
Amy Jones is a 2003 graduate of Eastern Alamance. Amy was a multi-sport athlete at EA, where she was a member of the Softball, Basketball, and Volleyball teams. As a softball player, she was an All- Conference selection 4 years and was named the Conference Player of the Year three times in 2000, 2002, and 2003. She was also named Mid State 2A Tournament MVP in 2000, 2001, and 2003 in addition to being named to the 2A All Regional team in the playoffs all 4 years. Amy also excelled in basketball being named Conference Player of the Year as a senior in 2003 as well 1 st Team All Region Team in 2003. Amy was also a sophomore on the State Runner Up Basketball team where she posted a double/double in points and rebounds.

Angie Bartis
Angie Bartis is a 1978 graduate of Eastern Alamance where he excelled in track and football. In track, Angie set the school record in the shot put with a 41’6 as a Sophomore and went on to break his own record as a Junior, with a toss of 48’4”.  This record would stand from 1977 to 2005.  In football, Angie earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in both his Junior and Senior seasons. Angie was also voted Honorable Mention All-State and was selected to play in the North/South All Star game.  After his time at Eastern, Angie started officiating in 1983 and made his way to the Atlantic Coast Conference in a short period of time.  Angie would officiate in the ACC for 1993 to 2018.  He served as President of the ACC Officials Association and worked 13 bowl games, 1 ACC Championship game, and was selected to officiate in the Army/Navy game.  Angie helped to start the City of Mebane Hall of Fame in 1995 where he is a member of the selected group.  To this day, Angie has stayed dedicated to helping EA Athletics.

Robbie Harris
Coach Robbie Harris is a 1976 graduate of Eastern Alamance, where he was a multi-sport athlete.  After graduation Robbie attended Western Carolina and Elon University.  After graduation from Elon, Robbie started his coaching career with Coach Fred Brady at Eastern Alamance in 1980.  Coach Harris coached at EA from 1980-1982 before taking a job at Ragsdale High School. Coach Harris taught and coached in Guilford County for many years where he was the Head Football Coach at Eastern Guilford and eventually returning to EA in 2001.  Coach Harris helped to guide the Eagles to 2 State Championship Appearances and 2 Regional Championships.  Coach Harris was regarded as one of the best defensive minded coaches to ever coach the game.  His attention to detail and his relationship with his players was what made him stand out.  Coach Harris was selected to coach in the North Carolina/South Carolina Shrine Bowl game in 2009.  Coach Harris retired in 2014, but can often be found in behind the endzone closest to the scoreboard on Friday nights.

George Chockley
George Chockley was a 1969 graduate of Eastern Alamance.  After graduation, George spent 2 years in the Navy and attended North Carolina State to get his degree in Animal Husbandry, looking to find a career raising animals.  George continued to be a part of the Naval Reserve and later worked for the police and fire departments in Durham.  In 1977, his life changed as he met the love of his life, BJ.  Little did he know that would lead to him donating his off time to Eastern Alamance Athletics.  George and his wife would be a staple at Eastern Alamance High School, as he took pictures for athletics and worked with the Football and Wrestling teams.  His love for his family, country, and EA put George into a category all his own. George passed away unexpectedly in 2014, but his presence is still felt as he looks down on EA Athletics.


BJ Chockley
BJ Chockley is a graduate of North Hampton High School and the University of North Carolina.  While at UNC she was a member of the Women’s Basketball team, where she as a 3-year letter winner.  BJ was drafted in the seventh round of the North American Soccer League Draft by the Tampa Bay Rowdies to play professional soccer.  She played 2 exhibition games and decided it was not for her.  She met the love of her life, George, and they were married in April of 1977.  In 1978 she became the Physical Therapy Director of Alamance County Hospital.  At the request of Dr. Jones, Mrs. Chockley began working with EA Football in 1978.  When BJ had her children, Josh and Zack, she worked home games and took off the road games.  BJ has over 45 years of service and has worked with Coach Fred Brady, Mickey Walker, Jimmy Teague, Jim Orr, and John Kirby.  Mrs. Chockley has mentored many thriving physician assistants, doctors, and trainers over the years while helping keep our Eagles on the field.
