ABSS hosted more than 30 current and emerging leaders today as part of the annual Alamance Chamber of Commerce Leadership Alamance Education Day.
Participants toured the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) to learn about the various courses offered to students across the District.
Student leaders were eager to share what they’re learning in hospitality and tourism, architecture and construction, health sciences, information technology, and audio visual technology and communications.
Chief Academic Officer Revonda Johnson shared with the group the District’s vision to ensure students are college and career ready.
“We understand some students are not interested in furthering their education at a four-year university. That’s one of the reasons why we offer so many pathways for them to explore in high school for free, many of which are in cooperation with Alamance Community College.”
Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler and Board of Education members also fielded questions and shared their vision going forward to ensure schools are safe, that ABSS works to continue to build a positive culture for staff, offer maximized pathways for students, and build upon our community partnerships in order to produce productive citizens.
CTEC’s Culinary Arts students prepared lunch for all of the participants before they left to tour Southern Alamance High School’s recent bond improvements including new science labs, classrooms, and a renovated Career & Technical Education space that includes carpentry, agriculture mechanics classes, and horticulture.
“We’re excited to show off our campus and all of the things we have to offer students,” said Kristy Mills, Assistant Principal.
Each year approximately 30 diverse students who represent the corporate, nonprofit, and civic sectors of Alamance County are selected to participate in the Leadership Alamance program.
“ABSS values its partnership with the Alamance Chamber and we were honored to host this year’s leadership cohort on our campuses today,” Butler added.
