Tomorrow, June 7th, is our last day of school. We thank you for a great school year. We will dismiss at 11:30 am.
Green House was our first House Champs! We invite all students to wear green to celebrate Kindness tomorrow!
The second grade superstars at Alexander Wilson recently celebrated their incredible reading growth with a fantastic "Camp Read-a-Lot" Day! 📚🎉 The students were treated to surprises throughout the day, including Mystery Reader appearances by parents, older siblings, school staff, and even Interim Superintendent Dr. Harrison. 📖💡 We couldn't be more proud of these young readers for their dedication and progress. Keep shining bright, second graders! 🌟
Congratulations to Kelly Corum, School Nurse at Alexander Wilson Elementary, for being named the ABSS School Nurse of the Year! 🎉👩⚕️
Kelly's unwavering dedication, expertise, and compassion have made her an indispensable asset to the school community. As Principal Ashley Westmoreland stated, "Kelly approaches each situation with empathy and proficiency. Her ability to provide immediate medical assistance while simultaneously offering comfort and reassurance is truly commendable."
Beyond her exceptional care for students and staff, Kelly's commitment to preventative care has significantly contributed to the overall well-being of the school. Through educational initiatives like the growing up class for 5th graders and proactive health screenings, including multiple dental van opportunities, Kelly has empowered the community to prioritize their health and adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
We are incredibly proud of Kelly and grateful for her tireless efforts in promoting a culture of wellness at Alexander Wilson Elementary. Congratulations once again on this well-deserved recognition! 🏆💐
We begin our End-of-Grade testing tomorrow. Please make sure, if you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader, that you are aware of our testing schedule and that students have a good night of sleep prior, eat a good breakfast the morning of, take meds/wear glasses, and arrive to school on time the morning of testing. We are excited for them to show what they know and to see their growth!
May 24th: 3rd grade reading; 5th grade science
May 29th: 3rd grade math; 5th grade math
May 30th: 3rd grade Read to Achieve; 4th grade math
May 31st: 4th grade reading; 5th grade reading
Running Club Parents--
This message is to notify you that tomorrow, May 23rd, will be our last day to meet. We will dismiss at 3:10 pm. Thanks for allowing your child to participate, and we hope they will look for a 5K race to compete in to show their endurance!
Our AWE Glow Dance is tonight from 6-7:30 in the gym. Entry is free; concessions/glow ware will be available for sale ($1-2)

This prestigious honor celebrates schools that cultivate students as true #GlobalLeaders, empowering them with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed to understand global issues, think critically, communicate effectively across cultures, and take action to improve our world.
All 3rd-5th grade students gathered in the cafeteria for the banner reveal and recognition of Alexander Wilson's new Showcase status. Then, in the second half, every K-5 Spanish Immersion class took the stage, with students of all ages impressively demonstrating Spanish proficiency with cultural songs and skits.
The 5th graders concluded the event by presenting an entire class project—originally created in Spanish—completely in English with remarkable poise and skill. Their ability to communicate across languages so effectively was an inspiring showcase of the global leadership cultivated at the school.
We're so proud of the students and staff at Alexander Wilson Elementary for embodying what it means to be globally competent leaders and learners. Thank you to Participate Learning for this recognition and providing some great prizes for the staff and students!

2nd grade is running late from their field trip to the zoo. They will return to school around 4:15. Remember pick up is in the old car rider line.

Alexander Wilson Elementary School is a vibrant and engaging learning environment where students are at the center of everything. 🌟 This year's theme, "Together, We can Change the World!" has been brought to life through the school's designation as a Participate Learning Global Showcase School. All students have been actively involved in Action Projects tied to the Sustainable Development Goals, helping them recognize their importance as contributing members of society. 🌍
One of the highlights of the 2023-2024 school year has been the introduction of themed "color houses" that all students and staff were sorted into. 🏘️ This initiative has fostered a sense of community, friendly competition, and mutual support as members encourage one another to reach their full potential. From the sorting celebration in the fall to the quarterly house meetings and the collection of house points, the color houses have added an exciting layer of motivation and school spirit. 🏆
With a mission statement of "Empowering every Eagle, every day, to SOAR!!!," Alexander Wilson Elementary is committed to providing a rich and empowering learning experience for all students. 🦅 The collective efficacy of the staff and students in embracing each day's potential has made this an amazing school year so far, and the entire community is excited to finish strong! 💪
