Makayla Thompson, a rising senior at Eastern Alamance High School, is a proud alumnus of Woodlawn Middle and Pleasant Grove Elementary.
Makayla Thompson’s commitment to excellence and strong work ethic is exemplified by her academic performance and athletic accomplishments. She epitomizes the term Scholar-Athlete. Makayla has distinguished herself as an athlete, scholar, and student leader during her time as an Eagle.
Leading by example, she was selected to captain her basketball team and has recently been named to lead Region 5 within the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and has been named to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Makayla has lettered in basketball and track & field every year since her Freshman year and has been named All-Conference and Academic All-Conference in each sport. She also was named to the All-Region list for basketball and received the Coaches’ Award.
In Track & Field this year, Makayla was named in the Top 3 throwers for Region 5, which qualified her for States. On May 19th, Makayla was named in the Top 15 for the State of NC for throwers. According to her throws coach, “Her exemplary character traits of honesty and integrity set the standard amongst people her age. She “walks the talk’ and in doing so, earns the respect and trust of her peers.” She has been a leader and a tremendous role model to her teammates and especially to the younger Eagles.
Makayla is a proud member of the National Honor Society and the Chick-fil-A Academy. She was accepted into Project Uplift, at UNC, for the 2023 school year. She is also a Math Tutor with One 2 One Tutoring Services located in Burlington. Makayla has excelled academically and has made the honor roll throughout her four years. She has maintained a 4.325 GPA and is ranked 14th in her class. Makayla wants to attend Columbia University in New York and study to become a Sports Medicine Physician and minor in Psychology.
