Husky Families,
I hope you had a restful and relaxing weekend. With just two weeks left in the third quarter, this is a crucial time to check your child’s progress. We encourage families to log into PowerSchool to review grades and have meaningful conversations with your student about any outstanding assignments that need to be completed. Please remind your student to check with their teachers to confirm the final day for submitting assignments for this grading period. Your continued support and partnership play a vital role in helping all students succeed, and we greatly appreciate your efforts to ensure that assignments are submitted on time.
We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below.
24-25 Calendar Update: The board of education has approved several important calendar changes to address our recent inclement weather days. These adjustments are necessary to ensure we meet state requirements for the 2024-2025 school year.
Please note the following calendar updates:
Friday, June 6 (Last Day of School): This will now be a FULL instructional day for students, not an early dismissal as originally planned.
Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17: These have been designated as optional teacher workdays for 10-month certified staff members on the traditional calendar.

School Dance: The Academic Boosters will host a March Madness Dance this Friday, March 21st from 4:00–6:30 PM. Tickets are $5, and concessions will be available for purchase during the event. In addition to dancing and music, we’re bringing back some exciting activities, including a 3v3 Basketball Tournament - students can register here. We need chaperones to help make this event a success! Use this Sign-Up Genius link to volunteer your time. As a reminder, students who owe lunch money or technology fees are not permitted to purchase a ticket and attend the dance. Prior to Friday morning, please pay all fees online through the K12 payment center. We hope to see everyone there for a fun-filled night of music, dancing, and basketball.
North Carolina All-State Band: We are thrilled to congratulate 8th graders, Mason Bloyd and Gavin Tripp, on earning a spot in the prestigious North Carolina All-State Band! Mason secured 6th chair trumpet, and Gavin earned 4th chair euphonium, making them among the best middle school musicians in the state! Earning a place in the All-State Band is an incredible achievement. To qualify, students must first rank at the top of their district and then compete against the best musicians from six other districts across the state. Mason and Gavin are only the 3rd and 4th students in Hawfields Middle School history to achieve this honor!
Both students will participate in a clinic from May 2-4, culminating in a final concert on Sunday, May 4th, at 2:00 PM at UNC Greensboro. Congratulations to Mason and Gavin for their dedication and hard work. We are so proud of you!
Student Dress Code: As the weather is warming up, please take a moment to review the ABSS Student Code of Conduct, Rule #2 for the Dress Code. Each student is expected to maintain an appearance that is neither distracting to other students nor disruptive to the educational environment and healthy climate of the school. Students who are out of dress code will be asked to change.
Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 92.8%, with the 6th grade class having the highest attendance at 93.6%! Thank you for helping us reach our weekly attendance goal of 95% or higher!
