Husky Families,
I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the sunshine this weekend after last week’s winter weather! As we transition back into our regular routine, I want to remind everyone that this Friday, February 28, is now a regular student day. It was previously scheduled as a workday but will now be used to make up instructional hours missed due to last week’s snow. Please plan accordingly, and let’s make it a great week of learning at Hawfields!
Please continue reading for the latest information on upcoming activities, reminders, and ways to stay engaged with our school community.
NC Check-Ins: This Tuesday, February 25, we will administer the Reading NC Check-In to all 6th - 8th grade students. This Wednesday, February 26, we will administer the Math NC Check In to all 6th - 8th grade students. This Thursday, February 27, we will administer the 8th grade Science Check IN to all 8th grade students. Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected content standards. It is extremely important that your student arrives at school on time on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to ensure that our test administration is not interrupted.
AYLA Recruitment for Rising 7th Graders: AYLA (Alamance Youth Leadership Academy) recruitment is now open for our rising seventh-grade students! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to cultivate their leadership skills through hands-on service projects and workshops with influential leaders from across our community. Applications are due to Mr. Leonard by Friday, March 7, 2025. Please encourage students who demonstrate leadership potential to apply! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mr. Leonard. Thank you for your continued support in developing future leaders!

All For Lunch Program: We are excited to share that Hawfields is participating in the All For Lunch program, which helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their ability to pay. This incredible initiative is designed to eliminate lunch debt and provide all students with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal. You can learn more and support this important cause by visiting All For Lunch at Hawfields Middle School. Let’s work together to make sure no student goes without lunch!
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
