February also marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time to recognize and appreciate the many contributions African Americans have made throughout history. It is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and impact of individuals who have influenced our nation in many fields, including science, education, sports, business, and the arts. We encourage families to take time this month to explore and celebrate the rich history, accomplishments, and stories of those who have helped shape our country.
National School Counseling Week: This week, we celebrate National School Counseling Week, a time to recognize the vital role school counselors play in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional growth. At Hawfields Middle School, we are grateful for Mr. Sam Westbrook, whose dedication and commitment make a difference in the lives of our students. Mr. Westbrook provides guidance, encouragement, and resources to help our students succeed. Please join us in thanking Mr. Westbrook for all he does to support our students, staff, and school community!
Rising Freshman Night at Southeast Alamance High School: Southeast Alamance High School invites all students and families of rising freshmen to join them on Monday, February 3, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM for their 2025-2026 Rising Freshman Night! School Dance: The Academic Boosters will host a Valentine's Dance on Friday, February 7th, from 4:00–6:30 PM. Tickets are $5, and concessions will be available for purchase during the event. Exciting news—there will also be another Gaming Truck Tournament at the dance! Don’t miss out on the fun! Preorders for Valentine's Dance Flower Bouquets and Candy are now open. You can preorder through this Google Order Form. To enroll in the gaming truck tournament, please complete the Google Order Form and prepay via CashApp to secure your spot. Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 93.3%, with the 6th grade class having the highest attendance at 94.7%! Thank you for helping us reach our weekly attendance goal of 95% or higher!

Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.

Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser: HMS Boosters are hosting a Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser. We are excited to invite you to participate in this fun and exciting opportunity to support our school. Each square is $20, with a total payout of $500 if all squares are sold. To participate, simply review the order form, select the square(s) you would like to purchase (numbered 1-100), and complete your order and prepayment by 10:00 PM on Saturday, February 8th. Payments can be submitted via CashApp to $HawfieldsBoosters, making sure to include "Super Bowl Squares" in the comments and send as "Friends & Family" to avoid fees. SOUPer Bowl Monday: The HMS Boosters are also hosting a special SOUPer Bowl Monday for our amazing staff on Monday, February 10. This event will feature a variety of soups to treat our hardworking staff to a delicious lunch. We need your help to make this event a success! 2nd Annual Girls and Women in Sports Celebration: We are excited to share that the ABSS Athletics Department will be hosting a National Girls & Women in Sports Day Celebration on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Southern Alamance High School Auditorium.
This event is open to all ABSS middle and high school female student-athletes (and their guardians), as well as coaches, support staff, athletic directors, and administrators. It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the impact of girls and women in sports. Join us as we honor and inspire the next generation of female athletes!
