Husky Families,

I want to begin by thanking you all for your flexibility and understanding as we’ve navigated the calendar changes this month due to winter weather. Your support during these unexpected adjustments has been invaluable.

We are thrilled to welcome our students back for what we hope will be our first full week of school in quite some time! With the winter weather hopefully behind us, we look forward to moving through the second semester with minimal interruptions and a renewed focus on learning and growth.

This is also a great opportunity to reinforce with your students the academic and behavioral expectations that help Hawfields Middle School remain a place where everyone can succeed. Consistent reminders at home about staying engaged in class, completing assignments, and demonstrating respect and responsibility go a long way in supporting their success.

Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring a positive and productive environment for our students.

We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below.

PowerSchool App: In order to stay up to date with your student’s grades and attendance, please ensure that you have downloaded the PowerSchool Parent Portal App. You can do this by downloading the PowerSchool app on your phone or device. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features. If you have any questions, please email Christy Lyle, our PowerSchool Data Manager.

Canvas Observer Account: Parents can sign up as an observer in Canvas. Observers can link their Canvas account to their student’s account so they can see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course contect. Observers can view the course but cannot participate in the course. Follow the steps in this document to sign up as a Parent Observer in your student’s canvas courses.

School Dance: The Academic Boosters will host a Valentine's Dance on Friday, February 7th, from 4:00–6:30 PM. Tickets are $5, and concessions will be available for purchase during the event. Exciting news—there will also be another Gaming Truck Tournament at the dance! Don’t miss out on the fun! Preorders for Valentine's Dance Flower Bouquets and Candy are now open. You can preorder through this Google Order Form. To enroll in the gaming truck tournament, please complete the Google Order Form and prepay via CashApp to secure your spot. We need chaperones to help make this event a success! Use this Sign-Up Genius link to volunteer your time.  As a reminder, students must pay any outstanding cafeteria account balances or technology fee to purchase a ticket to the dance.

Rising Freshman Night at Southeast Alamance High School: Southeast Alamance High School invites all students and families of rising freshmen to join them on Monday, February 3, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM for their 2025-2026 Rising Freshman Night! A Spanish interpreter will be available to assist families. For more information, please contact joy_toms@abss.k12.nc.us.

Schedule of Events:

  • 6:00-6:30 PM: Information Meeting in the SEHS Auditorium

  • 6:30-7:30 PM: Registration Fair in the SEHS Cafeteria

This is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Meet and chat with current staff and students

  • Learn about clubs, athletics, and extracurricular opportunities

  • Prepare your student for course registration

Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
