Husky Families,

I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend and were able to stay warm despite the chilly temperatures. As we move into another week, we’re looking forward to continuing our work together to support our students as we approach the winter break.

We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below.  Thank you for all you do to make our school community such a special place. Let’s make this week a fantastic one!

Give a Kid a Coat Drive: Our AYLA Club is hosting the Give a Kid a Coat Campaign, and we’d love your support! This drive will run through Friday, December 20, 2024, collecting new or gently used outerwear of all types—coats, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies, or sweaters—in any size. Donations will go towards our Hawfields Middle School closet for students in need, with smaller sizes going to Garrett Elementary School. In addition, our school closet is running low on pants, so we will  also count pants donations toward this campaign. The homeroom with the most donations will win a Chick-fil-A breakfast on Monday, January 6, 2025! Thank you for your generosity in helping us make a difference!

Subs with the Superintendent: Our new superintendent, Dr. Aaron Fleming, is excited to host a series of community engagement events across the district called: "Subs with the Super." These casual meet-and-greet sessions are designed to strengthen our connection with ABSS families and gather valuable feedback about our schools.

About the Events:

  • Format: Casual drop-in sessions with complimentary refreshments

  • Purpose: Building relationships with families and gathering community input

  • Spanish translation services will be provided at all sessions

  • Families can attend any session, regardless of their school zone

Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 93.4%, with the 6th grade class having the highest attendance at 93.7%! Thank you for helping us reach our weekly attendance goal of 95% or higher!

All For Lunch Program: We are excited to share that Hawfields is participating in the All For Lunch program, which helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their ability to pay. This incredible initiative is designed to eliminate lunch debt and provide all students with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal. You can learn more and support this important cause by visiting All For Lunch at Hawfields Middle School. Let’s work together to make sure no student goes without lunch!

Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
