I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend. We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below. Let’s make this week a fantastic one!
High School Speciality Program Meeting: Families of 8th grade students are invited to learn about the ABSS High School Speciality Programs this Wednesday, November 20 at 6:00 pm in the Hawfields Media Center. Representatives from the Alamance Burlington Early College, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and the PreCollegiate Academy will present information and answer questions that you might have about each option for high school.
NC Check Ins: This Tuesday, November 19, we will administer the Reading NC Check-In to all 6th - 8th grade students. This Thursday, November 21, we will administer the Math/Math 1 NC Check In to all 6th - 8th grade students. Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected content standards. It is extremely important that your student arrives at school on time on Tuesday and Thursday to ensure that our test administration is not interrupted.
Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 94.0%, with the 6th grade class having the highest attendance at 95.9%! Thank you for helping us bring our weekly attendance to 95% or higher!
All For Lunch Program: We are excited to share that Hawfields is participating in the All For Lunch program, which helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their ability to pay. This incredible initiative is designed to eliminate lunch debt and provide all students with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal. You can learn more and support this important cause by visiting All For Lunch at Hawfields Middle School. Let’s work together to make sure no student goes without lunch!
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
Laptop Insurance Plan: As we are beginning to see an increase in laptop damages, I highly recommend you purchase the optional $25 insurance plan for student laptops. Please use this link to purchase the optional insurance. Please note that you must click the box signifying you agree to the user agreement before purchasing insurance.
Hawfields Boosters Updates:
Holiday Bow Fundraiser: The Boosters are selling Red Bows now through November 24th. Please use the order for the link below to claim your Holiday Bows! Bows are $15 each & made approx. of 3.5 yards of wired ribbon. Payments can be made via CashApp $HawfieldsBoosters (include Holiday Bows in comment section), Cash or Check (written to HMS Boosters). Payment MUST be received before your order is considered complete.
On Monday, December 2nd, you will have the option to have your order delivered to your student's homeroom or schedule a pick up time between 3:30-5:30pm by using this SignUp Genius below. Please feel free to email HawfieldsBoosters@gmail.com with any questions or concerns you may have!
December Meeting: Our next Boosters Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3rd, at 6:00 PM in the Media Center. We encourage all parents to join us as we discuss upcoming events, school initiatives, and ways to support our students and staff. Your involvement makes a big difference! Free Sports Physicals: Emerge Ortho in Mebane is offering free sports physicals for all ABSS students from now until December 31, 2024.
