Husky Families,
I hope you had a restful and relaxing weekend and enjoyed your extra hour of rest today!
We are so proud of all our fall sports teams for their unbelievable seasons! Our football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball teams have all qualified for the playoffs this week, and we couldn’t be more excited to support them.
Football: Our football team will play for 3rd place on Monday, November 4, at 4:45 pm at Graham High School. They will face Western Alamance Middle School in what is sure to be a thrilling game!
Boys Soccer: Our boys soccer team is seeded 2nd and will play in the first round on Wednesday, November 6, at 4:45 pm at Hawfields against Graham Middle School. Let’s pack the stadium to beat the Falcons and cheer them on to advance to the championship! If we win, we will play in the championship game on Thursday, November 7, at 4:45 pm at Williams High School.
Girls Volleyball: Our girls volleyball team is seeded 3rd and will play the first round of the tournament on Thursday, November 7, at 4:45 pm at Western Alamance Middle School. Let’s pack the stands and cheer on our girls to beat the Warriors! If they win, they’ll advance to the championship game on Friday, November 8, at 4:45 pm at Southeast Alamance High School.
Let's show up in full force to support our athletes! Go Huskies!
We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below.
Teacher Workday on Tuesday, November 5: Please remember that Tuesday, November 5, is a Teacher Workday. There will be no school for students this Tuesday. Enjoy the day off, and we’ll see everyone back on Wednesday!
Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 93.3%, with the 6th grade and 8th grade class having the highest attendance at 94.1%! Thank you for helping us bring our weekly attendance to 95% or higher!
High School Speciality Program Meeting: Families of 8th grade students are invited to learn about the ABSS High School Speciality Programs on Wednesday, November 20 at 6:00 pm in the Hawfields Media Center. Representatives from the Alamance Burlington Early College, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and the PreCollegiate Academy will present information and answer questions that you might have about each option for high school.
Band & Chorus Fruit Fundraiser: The band and chorus are having a fruit fundraiser to help raise money for new music stands, storage for instruments, fresh sheet music, defraying the cost of the Music in the Parks trip, guest clinicians and honor band trips. For our chorus, we’re raising funds for new sheet music (song) purchases, classroom percussion instruments, and trips to Music in the Parks, All State Chorus, performance attire, buses, and accompanists. With nearly 300 talented musicians in both Band & Chorus—1/3 of the school!—your support will make all the difference.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.

Belle’s Brews Coffee Truck Staff Treat: Thanks to a VERY special Husky family, the Hawfields Boosters will host a coffee truck for our staff on MOnday, November 4th from 7-9am. The truck will be outside of the Media Center!
