Husky Families,

I hope you had a restful and relaxing weekend. Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is a Teacher Workday, so there is no school for students. Enjoy the day off, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the building on Tuesday for the start of the 2nd Quarter!

I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible Academic Boosters and all the parent volunteers who made Friday so special. Thank you for donating delicious food for our salad bar and for your support in decorating and organizing the game truck at the dance. The students had an amazing time, and it's all thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our parent volunteers and community partners. We could not do it without you – thank you for making a difference at Hawfields Middle School!

We have several important updates and reminders to keep everyone on track, so please take a moment to review the information below. Let’s make this week a fantastic one!

Band & Chorus Fruit Fundraiser: The band and chorus are having a fruit fundraiser to help raise money for new music stands, storage for instruments, fresh sheet music, defraying the cost of the Music in the Parks trip, guest clinicians and honor band trips. For our chorus, we’re raising funds for new sheet music (song) purchases, classroom percussion instruments, and trips to Music in the Parks, All State Chorus, performance attire, buses, and accompanists. With nearly 300 talented musicians in both Band & Chorus—1/3 of the school!—your support will make all the difference.

Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 92.9%, with the 6th grade class having the highest attendance at 95.7%! Thank you for helping us bring our weekly attendance to 95% or higher!

8th Grade Curriculum Night: 8th grade families are invited to join us for a grade level curriculum night on November 4th from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. 8th grade teachers will be discussing important information about what has been learned, what will be learned, and important strategies for success with your student's academics as they prepare for high school. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teachers.

No Food Deliveries Allowed to the School: Please remember that outside food delivery services, like DoorDash or UberEats, are not allowed during school hours. For safety reasons, all meals should be brought from home or purchased from the school cafeteria. Thank you for helping us maintain a smooth and secure environment.

Reproductive Health Consent Forms: Please log into PowerSchool to complete the Reproductive Health Consent or Withhold Consent for Student Participation form for your student. This is a new form, and even if you have already submitted other back-to-school forms, we still need your input on this specific matter. Your prompt attention and assistance are greatly appreciated as we ensure all necessary documentation is in place for the school year.

Vision Screening Consent Forms for 7th Grade Students: Our school nurse will start vision screenings in the coming weeks for 7th grade students. Please log into your PowerSchool account and Opt "In" to the Vision Screening Consent Form by November 8th, 2024 in order for your child to participate.

Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.

Academic Boosters Updates

HMS Spirit Wear - Spirit wear was delivered to homerooms last week. When ordering we try to keep everything as local as possible, including our spirit wear orders. The hurricane really hit our NC distributors hard which is why delivery to you was delayed. With that said the navy t-shirts are on backorder. We expected them to arrive any day now.

We are discussing opening another preorder sale just before Thanksgiving, but will definitely have one in the spring semester!

Staff Favorites - Check out our Staff’s List of their Favorite Things. Some teachers have provided their Amazon Wish List, as well—let’s clear their list!!! Sharing is caring and together we can do TOP DOG things!  We are a Pack and where there is a need or gap we will fill it!  HUSKY PROUD & HUSKY STRONG!

Huskies Dine Out Results  - We are excited to announce that we earned $325 at our 1st ever ASIAN Harbor Dine Out Night!  We are so thankful for our community sponsors and their continued support!  A huge shoutout to all of our HMS families that participated!
