Husky Families,
I hope you all stayed safe on Friday and were able to weather the storms without incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities in Western North Carolina that experienced such devastating impact. Let’s keep them in our hearts as they work to rebuild. Information will be forthcoming about ways that our community can support other middle school students in that part of the state.
Teacher Assistant Appreciation Day: Today, we take a moment to celebrate and recognize the incredible contributions of our dedicated teacher assistants. Their hard work, patience, and commitment to our students help create a positive and supportive learning environment each day. Please join me in thanking our TAs for all they do to make Hawfields Middle a wonderful place for our students and staff. We appreciate the care and energy you bring to our school!
Attendance: Hawfields Middle School is committed to engaging students in challenging learning opportunities that are matched to individual needs. In order to allow our teachers and staff to support students in this way, it is imperative that every student attend school regularly. Our overall average attendance rate last week was 94.9%, with the 8th grade class having the highest attendance at 95.8%! Thank you for helping us get our weekly attendance at 95% or higher!
PowerSchool Parent Portal Account: In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features. Please let us know if we can help you. Please also take a moment to ensure that you have filled out your child's Back to School forms in PowerSchool.
How to find them:
Log in to PowerSchool Parent Portal
Click "Forms" in the menu.
Complete all listed Back to School forms
Pro tip: Don't forget to update the Medical forms too!
Access anywhere:
PowerSchool mobile app
Reproductive Health Consent Forms: Please log into PowerSchool to complete the Reproductive Health Consent or Withhold Consent for Student Participation form for your student. This is a new form, and even if you have already submitted other back-to-school forms, we still need your input on this specific matter. Your prompt attention and assistance are greatly appreciated as we ensure all necessary documentation is in place for the school year.
Photo/Video Release Form: Due to new state legislation, in order for your student's picture to be used on the school’s website or social media accounts, you must opt-in to the photo release in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This includes your student’s picture being in the yearbook this year. The form is automatically set to opt-out of this photo release so you have to go in and change this to opt-in. Please utilize the PowerSchool Parent Portal to complete this step as soon as possible so we have up-to-date, accurate information on your preferences for your student.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
All For Lunch Program: We are excited to share that Hawfields is participating in the All For Lunch program, which helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their ability to pay. This incredible initiative is designed to eliminate lunch debt and provide all students with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal. You can learn more and support this important cause by visiting All For Lunch at Hawfields Middle School. Let’s work together to make sure no student goes without lunch!
Hawfields Booster Back to School Breakfast: The Back to School Breakfast for our staff has been moved to Friday, October 4. If you were unable to bring in your items last Thursday, please drop them off in the front office on Thursday, October 3rd. Thank you in advance!
Fall Picture Day: Picture Day is coming up on Friday, October 11. Information about picture packages will be sent home this week. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.
Athletics: Effective immediately, any athlete who does not have all required forms submitted and up-to-date in DragonFly will not be able to participate in any practices or competitions. It is critical that all documentation is completed to ensure eligibility and safety. If you have any questions or are unsure if you are missing any forms, please reach out to your coach as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding athletics, contact our Athletic Director, Lavar Marsh at lavar_marsh@abss.k12.nc.us.
