Husky Families,
I am excited to share that the 2023-2024 state testing results have been released and Hawfields achieved great success once again! A few of our highlights include exceeding overall growth, having the highest growth score of all ABSS schools, as well as the highest reading and math performance scores of all ABSS middle schools. These accomplishments are a true reflection of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork that make Hawfields so special. We have set the bar high, and together, we will continue to excel and create even more opportunities for success.
ABSS Student Code of Conduct: Here is the link to the ABSS Student Code of Conduct. While each of you are familiar with our school handbooks, we wanted to make sure you had access to the District’s Code of Conduct that guides our decisions with consequences. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our administrative team.
PowerSchool Parent Portal Account: In order to stay up to date about your child’s grades and attendance, it is very important that you download the Powerschool Parent Portal App. HERE is all the information you need to download the app and set up its features. Please let us know if we can help you. Please also take a moment to ensure that you have filled out your child's Back to School forms in PowerSchool.
How to find them:
Log in to PowerSchool Parent Portal
Click "Forms" in the menu.
Complete all listed Back to School forms
Pro tip: Don't forget to update the Medical forms too!
Access anywhere:

All For Lunch Program: We are excited to share that Hawfields is participating in the All For Lunch program, which helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their ability to pay. This incredible initiative is designed to eliminate lunch debt and provide all students with the opportunity to enjoy a healthy meal. You can learn more and support this important cause by visiting All For Lunch at Hawfields Middle School. Let’s work together to make sure no student goes without lunch!
Free & Reduced Lunch Application: Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. The form is available in the HMS main office or you can fill it out online: https://www.lunchapplication.com/ More information is available here. This year, we are asking that all families complete and return the form, regardless of whether your student will eat a meal at school.
Student Absent Notes: If your child is absent for part or all of a school day you can send in notes to our main office or you can take a picture and upload them to the absence form linked below. You can also find the absence form on our website under the parent section.
Laptop Insurance Plan: To help protect against costly repairs, you can purchase an optional $25 insurance plan for student laptops. This insurance will cover any incidental damage to the chromebook. I highly recommend the insurance as your child will be taking the chromebook home each day. Please use this link to purchase the optional insurance.
Canvas Observer Account: Parents can sign up as an observer in Canvas. Observers can link their Canvas account to their student’s account so they can see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course contect. Observers can view the course but cannot participate in the course. Follow the steps in this document to sign up as a Parent Observer in your student’s canvas courses.
Car Rider Information: Thank you for your assistance with our car rider line in the mornings and afternoons. I do ask that everyone please follow the traffic pattern and instructions from HMS staff members so that we can get everyone on and off campus safely and in a timely manner. As a reminder, it is critical that your student knows if they are going to be a car rider or bus rider each day.
Athletics: As a reminder, ABSS has a clear bag policy for all athletic events. Please make sure that if you plan to bring a bag into any athletic event, it must be clear. Thank you in advance for your help with this policy.
If you have any questions regarding athletics, contact our Athletic Director, Lavar Marsh at lavar_marsh@abss.k12.nc.us.
