Welcome to our new Beginning Teachers! Today marks the start of an exciting journey with the Alamance-Burlington School System. Our first-year teachers participated in a orientation day at CTEC focused on being "Student Centered, Future Focused!" 🌟 The day's highlights included: 👋 A warm welcome from district leadership 💡 Insights from former beginning teachers (BT1 Panel) 📅 Preparation tips for the first days before students arrive 💻 An introduction to educational technology 🤝 Information on community resources available to support teachers 📊 An overview of NC's educator evaluation system 📜 Important details on licensing and state education policies We extend our heartfelt thanks to Interim Superintendent Dr. Harrison, Board Chair Sandy Ellington-Graves, BT Coordinators Bambie Evans and Leslie Carriker, K-12 Blended Learning Specialist Brittany Jackson, our former BT1 teachers for their invaluable advice, and the Alamance Chamber for providing lunch. Alamance County is expected to get heavy rainfall and high winds with the incoming storm. Projections for heaviest rainfall and winds in the triad begin in the early morning Thursday and Friday. Thursday, August 8th and Friday, August 9th will be remote learning days for our Early College students and closed for students in our Read to Achieve Summer School. The Read to Achieve Summer Camp will have a makeup day on Monday, August 12th. Non-congregate meal pick-up in the Eastern Zone scheduled on Thursday, August 8th will be canceled. Middle and High School athletic practices, scrimmages, and workouts scheduled on Thursday, August 8th, and Friday, August 9th will be canceled.

Here's a look at the revitalized Turrentine Middle School campus! Look closely and you can see the brand new windows installed as part of the ongoing facility improvement project. News crews walked through the building yesterday with Greg Hook, Chief Operations Officer, to discuss the work being done. You can watch their stories, linked below. We will have a video going live soon with most of the footage from this tour. All in all, the improvements to HVAC systems, windows, and doors are substantial and will make a big difference in air quality. 🏆 Congratulations to Graham High School CTE Teacher Madison Pierce, named North Carolina New Teacher of the Year by the NC Association of Career and Technical Educators! This award recognizes Madison's significant contributions to innovative career and technical education programs and her professional commitment early in her career. We're proud to support Madison as she moves on to the ACTE Region II awards, which includes 11 states and territories from Alabama to the Virgin Islands. Winners from each of the five regions advance to the Nationals. ⚾ When he's not on the field, Whiff enjoys a good book by the press box! He's preparing for the Burlington Sock Puppets Reading Celebration Night on July 30th at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Students in Grades K-6 can keep track of their summer reading and earn great prizes! Our rising 8th and 9th graders had a blast at the Food Science Explorers camp! Some of our rising 7th graders just wrapped up an amazing journey of career exploration in the Discover Your Destiny summer camp. They engaged in self-paced, collaborative activities across various fields including robotics, cosmetology, hairstyling, food and nutrition, medical technology, virtual reality, and 3D printing. Students selected areas of interest, working through activities connected to real-world career skills.
