The ABSS Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to use $55,000 of its fund balance to give select substitutes a one-time $500 retention bonus.
The 102 substitute teachers that have fulfilled at least 30 full-day substitute teaching requests between September 1, 2022, and November 30, 2022, will receive the bonus on December 16.
“It’s imperative that we recognize these 102 individuals who have committed over 3000 classroom hours over the past 58 school days. They have helped us at a time when classroom coverage is crucial considering we have over 80 vacancies. We appreciate everything they’ve been doing,” said Sandy Ellington-Graves, Board Chair.
Reassignment Appeals
The Board also revised its transfer policy to limit the number of students who would be allowed to transfer under the new school reassignment. Rising seniors will be allowed to remain at their current school if they choose. All other students will be required to attend their reassigned schools. Exceptions will be made for homeless students, employees’ children, and those students deemed at risk at their domiciled school. Students will be notified in their January report cards of their assigned school for next year.
