Superintendent/Finance

 

Dale Smith from Anderson, Smith & Wike shared the results from the fiscal year 2023-2024 audit and financial statements. The Board reviewed the Financial and Compliance sections and received information about the findings and recommendations from Anderson, Smith, & Wike. The financial statement is available on the Finance webpage.

 

Mr. Messer and Ms. Anderson presented information regarding classified bus driver pay issues and possible solutions to help alleviate bus driver recruitment.

 

Ms. Anderson proposed a policy revision to update the contact information listed in Policy 1710/4020/7230 Discrimination and Harassment Prohibited by Federal Law and Policy 1720/4030/7235 Title IX Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex. The only change is to update the contact information in the policies. It was unanimously approved.

 

Curriculum

 

Ms. Johnson provided two options to review and discuss for the 2025-2026 calendar. A survey has since been shared with staff, families, and community members. The Board of Education will review feedback and vote at their next meeting. 

 

Two field trips for Cummings High School and Southern High School were presented to the Board and approved unanimously.

 

Student Services


A group of 27 policy updates from the North Carolina School Board Association were presented and approved unanimously.

Operations


Mr. Hook presented the following items that were unanimously approved by the BOE:

Change orders for KNC Technologies for the ongoing Eastlawn Elementary and Elon Elementary security camera projects. The value of the Eastlawn Elementary change order is $3,464.42 and the value of the Elon Elementary change order is $3,892.64. These change orders are funded by the NC Safety Grants awarded for these school sites.

 

An amendment to the existing design services contract with REI Engineers for Eastern Alamance High School. The value of the amendment is $10,300 to be paid with allocated bond funds.

A service contract for HVAC chiller preventative maintenance for Systems Contractors for annual chiller preventive maintenance across the district. The value of the contract is $97,663 to be paid with local funding.

 

Human Resources


Ms. Anderson presented the personnel report for approval. The report was approved unanimously.
