RALEIGH, NC - The Southern Alamance High School FFA Chapter received special recognition at the North Carolina State Capitol during a prestigious ceremony honoring the state's agricultural education programs. The recognition came as part of the 2024 North Carolina Larry Wooten Rural Leadership Award presentation to the North Carolina FFA Association.
Ten FFA officers from Southern Alamance, accompanied by advisors Mr. Sublett and Mr. Drake, attended the exclusive gathering. The chapter was one of only two schools invited to represent the state's 48,000 FFA members, highlighting the significant achievement for the Alamance County program.
During the ceremony, Governor Roy Cooper and Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler commended the lasting impact of agricultural education and FFA on North Carolina's rural communities. Southern Alamance FFA Chapter was specifically highlighted as an exemplary model of FFA's influence in local communities.
"This was quite the recognition for Southern," said Principal Kristy Mills, who attended the event. "Having ten of our FFA officers recognized at the State Capitol speaks volumes about the exceptional agricultural education program we have at Southern Alamance. Out of 48,000 FFA members across North Carolina, our students were chosen to represent the impact FFA has on local communities. This recognition reflects the dedication of our teachers and the outstanding leadership of our students. We couldn't be more proud of them."
The ceremony also honored Bruce Miller, former agriculture teacher at South Rowan High School, for his contributions to agricultural education.
State FFA Advisor Joshua Bledsoe, accepting the award on behalf of the North Carolina FFA Association, emphasized the collective efforts of the state's FFA members and over 600 agriculture teachers. He reaffirmed the organization's commitment to fostering leadership and preparing young people for agricultural careers.
