The Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education has announced the appointment of three new administrators following their December 2, 2024 board meeting. These appointments represent significant additions to the district's leadership team across multiple schools.
Peter Martinek-Jenne has been named Assistant Principal of both Sylvan and Pleasant Grove Elementary Schools. With over 23 years of educational experience, Martinek-Jenne began his career as the first male Kindergarten teacher at Sacred Heart Academy in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to North Carolina, he taught Kindergarten and First grade for 15 years before becoming a Curriculum Facilitator in Guilford County Schools. Most recently, he served as Dean of Students at Walter Hines Page High School. Martinek-Jenne holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the High Point University Leadership Academy.
"I am honored and very excited to join the Alamance-Burlington School System," said Martinek-Jenne. "I look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and the communities of each school as we work together to transform learning and grow all students."
MacKenzie Strickland has been appointed Assistant Principal of E.M. Yoder Elementary and Haw River Elementary Schools. Strickland, who began her teaching career in 2015, brings experience teaching grades 1-6. She earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Wingate University in 2014 and recently completed her Master's in School Administration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in May 2024.
"I am thrilled to begin my journey as an Assistant Principal in the Alamance-Burlington school system serving at both EM Yoder and Haw River Elementary," said Strickland. "I look forward to collaborating with the staff, students and families at both schools to promote safe/nurturing learning environments for all students."
Scott Moore will serve as Interim Principal of Turrentine Middle School. With 21 years in education, Moore brings extensive experience as a social studies teacher, Behavior Coach and Interventionist, and assistant principal. A graduate of Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Moore also holds a master's degree in History Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Post-Master's Certificate in School Administration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
"I'm excited to be a member of the Turrentine family," Moore stated. "Our students, staff, and community are all very supportive and together we will continue to accomplish great things."
These appointments demonstrate ABSS's ongoing commitment to building strong leadership teams across its schools. Each administrator brings unique experiences and perspectives that will contribute to the district's mission of providing excellent educational opportunities for all students.
