On September 10, 2024, the Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education held a work session covering a range of administrative, curricular, and operational matters. The meeting addressed several key issues and upcoming events affecting the district.

Administrative Board Matters

Board Chair Ellington-Graves announced the upcoming swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Fleming, scheduled for September 18 in the Hugh M. Cummings High School auditorium. This event marks an important transition in the district's leadership.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Harrison brought attention to a concerning trend reported by high school principals regarding middle school students causing disruptions at home football games. To address this issue, the Superintendent plans to give high school principals the option to implement a new rule requiring non-high school students to be accompanied by an adult when attending athletic events.

Dr. Parker inquired about the possibility of broadcasting future meetings on YouTube, indicating a potential move towards greater accessibility for the community. He also requested an update on the tele-health partnership. Dr. Kristy Davis responded that the district's attorneys are currently reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and the project is nearing the stage where it can move forward.

Student Services

Dr. Kristy Davis presented a proposed revision to Policy 8210, which deals with Grants and Funding for Special Projects. After discussion, the Board decided to postpone this item for further review at the next meeting.

The North Carolina School Board Association has recommended updates to 17 policies. The board conducted a first reading of these updates, with a table detailing the changes attached to the meeting agenda. A vote on these policy updates is scheduled for the next meeting.
