The Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education has announced the appointment of Ms. Laura Calone as the new principal of North Graham Elementary School. The decision was made during the August 27 Board meeting.
Ms. Calone, no stranger to ABSS, brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the district. Originally from Rochester, New York, she began her career in ABSS in 2002 and has since held various roles within the system.
"I'm excited to be back home in ABSS and North Graham Elementary," said Calone. "I believe it is imperative for a principal to build trust and form relationships with all members of the school community and look forward to doing just that."
Throughout her career, Ms. Calone has held various positions within ABSS, including general education teacher at Newlin Elementary School, special education teacher, and academic coach at Andrews Elementary. She also served as assistant principal at North Graham Elementary from 2015 to 2021.
Ms. Calone's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York College at Brockport, a Master of Special Education Degree from Elon University, and a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which she earned as a North Carolina Principal Fellow.
Most recently, Ms. Calone worked as an Educational Programs Compliance Specialist with the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facility Schools under the Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked with facility schools across the state.
