Emily-Lynn Adkins Appointed as Chief Communications Officer of Alamance-Burlington School System with photo of Ms. Adkins

The Alamance-Burlington School System has appointed Emily-Lynn Adkins as the district's new Chief Communications Officer. With over 15 years of progressive experience in communications, community relations, and program planning, Adkins brings a diverse skill set to her new role.

Most recently, Adkins served as the Public Information Officer for the Burlington Police Department, where she developed and implemented strategic communication plans, acted as the primary spokesperson, and managed the department's website and social media accounts. Prior to that, she worked as the Digital Communications and Community Relations Specialist for ABSS from January 2020 to August 2022. In this capacity, she assisted in developing the district's communication plans, worked closely with the Board of Education and district leadership on outreach efforts, and managed the district's website and social media presence.

A graduate of East Carolina University, Adkins' background also includes roles at ECU, where she served as the Associate Director of Parent and Family Programs, Business Services Coordinator, and Administrative Support Associate. Additionally, she has experience working for the East Carolina Alumni Association and the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce.

Adkins is a member of the Leadership Alamance Class of 2022 and the North Carolina Association of Government Information Officers.

She will assume her new role as Chief Communications Officer later this summer.
