Gavin Clark, a senior at Southern Alamance High School, recently completed a community service project that is bringing joy to students at Grove Park Elementary School. After saving his money for over two years, Clark purchased lumber and solicited help from fellow students to build a gaga ball pit on the Grove Park playground.
Gaga ball is a fast-paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. Players use their hands to hit a ball at the other players' legs, trying to eliminate opponents from the game. The new gaga ball pit was built thanks to Clark's dedication and determination to give back to his community.
He plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduating from Southern Alamance High School and major in political science and economics. He hopes to eventually attend law school.
Staff at Grove Park Elementary are already enjoying the new gaga ball pit during recess. They commended Clark for his efforts to provide such a meaningful gift to the school and its students through this community service project.
The gaga ball pit was part of Clark's Eagle Scout project, which is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program. It is earned by Scouts after they meet extensive requirements including completing a major community service project.
