Crews are actively working on mold remediation at Andrews and Newlin Elementary Schools.
At Andrews Elementary, Sasser Restoration crews are making headway on cleaning ductwork and other affected areas. The remediation work remains on schedule and contractors plan to have the work completed before the first day of school on August 28.
ABSS is spending more than $700,000 for mold remediation and repairs to the school’s HVAC system.
The ABSS Board of Education will hold a special called meeting Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. to approve a contract for the remediation work to begin at Newlin. District administrators are working on a plan this week for Newlin that may include temporarily relocating affected students and staff to another facility. The details are still being worked out.
Before schools reopen, indoor air quality will be tested at both schools to ensure it meets safety standards.
The District also produced a video and released photos to explain the comprehensive work that is being done including the cleaning of all surfaces, ceilings, walls, ductwork, and individual items in the schools.
In addition to the major remediation projects at Andrews and Newlin, ABSS has implemented a plan to proactively evaluate and address any smaller scale concerns at all campuses across the district. This plan includes closely monitoring HVAC systems to ensure optimal air quality and ventilation.
