The Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education and Dr. Butler announced two additional administrative changes for next school year following a special called meeting today.

Dr. Helena Thomas, who was originally supposed to become the principal at Cummings High School, announced her plans Friday to take a position in a neighboring district. Dr. Thomas had been serving as the Principal of Williams High School for the past two years. Her unexpected resignation prompted the need for adjustments in the leadership plans for Cummings High School.

The Board approved the transfer of Clifton Thomas to become the new leader at Cummings High School.  Thomas has worked in the District for several years as both Assistant Principal at Eastern Alamance High and most recently as Principal at Graham Middle. Prior to coming to ABSS, he worked in both Durham and Wake Counties as an administrator.

The vacancy at Graham Middle will be filled by Summer Rogers who is the current Assistant Principal at Graham High.  Prior to her role at Graham High, Rogers served as Dean of Students at Broadview Middle, gaining valuable experience in student support and discipline.  She most recently completed the ABSS Aspiring Leadership Program, a comprehensive year- long program that prepares assistant principals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in leadership roles within ABSS.

“Both Mr. Thomas and Ms. Rogers are strong leaders and I’m confident they will thrive in their new roles," said Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler.  "As we navigate these changes, I believe that our schools will continue to flourish and grow under their capable leadership."

Earlier this week the District announced more than two dozen administrative leadership changes for the 2023-24 academic year.  Butler called those changes, “a proactive step towards enhancing educational outcomes by leveraging each leader's unique skills, expertise, and perspectives.”
