After a remarkable 62-year journey in education, Cummings High School and ABSS said farewell today to an extraordinary teacher and mentor, Chloe McPherson.
The school community gathered to celebrate her commitment, work-ethic, and the mark she left on the hearts and minds of all who have had the privilege of knowing her.
Chloe McPherson has been an integral part of Cummings High School since its inception in 1970, when she joined the faculty as a young and passionate educator.
"It is hard to imagine the school without Chloe McPherson being here," says Teacher Eslyn Egli. "Ms. McPherson has always embodied the traits of a great leader and a person of excellent character. She sets an example that we should all aspire to emulate.”
As a testament to her impact on the school community, a special slide dedicated to Chloe McPherson has been included in the Character Education unit presented to students each year. This recognition showcases her commitment, passion, and the positive relationships she has fostered over the years. Chloe McPherson's influence has touched the lives of countless students and staff. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler thanked McPherson and longtime educator Joanne Hayes for their service to the District. Hayes is retiring after more than 40 years. McPherson served as the first female high school principal with the former Burlington City Schools. Hayes was the first female high school principal with the former Alamance County School System. The two systems merged in 1996 to form what is now Alamance-Burlington School System.
Thank you for your service to this community,” Butler said. “You are both class acts!”
