In our latest facilities update, we are share details about the extensive school improvements underway or already completed. Our district is undertaking major HVAC renovations and window replacements at eight schools, funded by ESSER grants. These projects will significantly enhance our learning environments with new fresh air systems, upgrades, and more efficient infrastructure. But that's not all – we're also making progress on county-funded roofing projects, additional HVAC improvements, and other vital upgrades across the district. From modernizing our climate control systems to enhancing security, we're committed to providing top-notch facilities for our students and staff.

ESSER-Funded Projects (Substantial Completion Date: August 19, 2024)

AO Elementary: AO Elementary is receiving comprehensive HVAC upgrades, including new systems for the gym, replacements for various split systems and air handlers throughout the building, and a conversion to a 4-pipe system. The project also includes window replacements in specific areas.

  • Add (2) HVAC package units for gym

  • Remove steam boiler serving gym

  • Replace (8) split systems in kindergarten wing

  • Replace (2) split systems in office area

  • Replace (2) ductless split systems in hallways

  • Replace (1) air handler in media area

  • Replace (2) air handlers in cafeteria

  • Replace (12) classroom unit ventilators

  • Replace (3) FCUs in office area

  • Add (2) hot water pumps for new 4-pipe system

  • Convert 2-pipe system to 4-pipe

Broadview Middle: Broadview Middle is undergoing significant HVAC improvements, focusing on upgrading the basement air handling unit, replacing numerous VAV boxes, refurbishing cooling towers, and implementing a total window replacement throughout the school.

  • Upgrade AHU-1 in basement (replace fans, valve, dampers)

  • Replace (7) water pumps and add (8) VFDs

  • Replace (128) VAV boxes

  • Refurbish (3) cooling towers

  • Replace support steel under (1) tower

  • Upgrade controls for all replaced HVAC equipment

  • Total window replacement

Eastlawn Elementary: Eastlawn Elementary's project involves replacing fan coils, air handlers, and adding a hot water piping loop. The school will also receive window replacements in specific areas and a comprehensive controls upgrade.

  • Install (2) hot water pumps

  • Replace (52) fan coils with 4-pipe fan coils

  • Replace (1) office air handler

  • Replace (2) gym air handlers

  • Add hot water piping loop

  • Upgrade controls for all replaced HVAC equipment

  • Window replacement in front hallway and media

South Graham Elementary: South Graham Elementary is receiving various HVAC upgrades, including replacements of rooftop units, air handlers, and classroom ventilators. The project also includes the addition of VAV boxes and a controls upgrade.

  • Replace (2) gym rooftop package units

  • Replace (1) air handler coil (AHU-98-6)

  • Install (1) cafeteria air handler and condensing unit

  • Replace (2) split system units

  • Replace (2) condensing units and add (2) AHU coils in 1991 building

  • Replace (20) classroom unit ventilators and condensing units

  • Add (9) single duct VAV boxes with hot water

  • Upgrade controls for all replaced HVAC equipment

South Mebane Elementary: South Mebane Elementary's improvements focus on adding and replacing various HVAC components, including split systems for the gym, a new rooftop unit for the cafeteria, and replacements for multiple air handlers and classroom unit ventilators.

  • Add (2) DX cooling split systems for gym

  • Add (1) rooftop unit to cafeteria

  • Replace (2) office DX air handler and condensing unit

  • Replace (1) DX split system in Bldg. 400

  • Replace (3) chilled water air handlers in Bldg. 400

  • Replace (17) classroom unit ventilators

  • Replace (2) rooftop units for media center

Turrentine Middle: Turrentine Middle is undergoing extensive HVAC replacements, including air cooled chillers, air handlers, and exhaust fans. The project also includes the installation of new outdoor air units and comprehensive window and door replacements.

  • Replace (2) air cooled chillers

  • Replace (2) gym air handlers

  • Install (2) outdoor air units for classrooms

  • Replace (11) indoor air handlers

  • Replace (12) restroom exhaust fans

  • Upgrade controls for all replaced HVAC equipment

  • Window and door replacements (entire school, excludes front foyer)

Western Alamance Middle School: Western Alamance Middle School's project involves adding a new rooftop unit for the gym, replacing numerous fan coils and air handlers, and replacing an air cooled chiller.

  • Add (1) rooftop package unit for gym

  • Replace (31) classroom fan coils

  • Replace (13) air handlers

  • Replace (1) air cooled chiller

Williams High School: Williams is receiving a complete overhaul of its HVAC system, including replacements and additions of chillers, air handlers, and pumps. The project also includes upgrading to a 4-pipe system and window replacement on the front of the school.

  • Replace (2) air cooled chillers and (2) pumps

  • Replace (3) split systems serving auditorium

  • Replace (1) AHU for 3rd floor

  • Add (2) air handlers for gym

  • Add (1) air cooled chiller and pump for gym

  • Add (2) fan coils for gym classrooms

  • Add (2) make up air units for main building classrooms

  • Convert to 4-pipe system in main building

  • Replace (6) hot water pumps with (4) new ones

  • Replace (6) chilled water building pumps

  • Upgrade controls for all replaced HVAC equipment

  • Window replacement on front of school
